Beyond the Hype: Responsible AI Adoption for Nonprofits

AI is moving quickly — but for many nonprofits, the real questions are less about hype and more about practice:
  • How are organizations actually using AI?
  • Where are the risks?
  • What does responsible adoption look like in real workflows, teams, and communities?

This month’s Portland Tech Club is hosted in collaboration with Portland Community College’s Willow Creek AI Lab and will be an interactive conversation on AI literacy, organizational readiness, and responsible adoption in mission-driven organizations. Drawing from NTEN’s newly launched 2026 State of Nonprofit AI Adoption & Governance Survey, we’ll explore early themes emerging across the sector - including opportunity, uncertainty, governance, and the growing need for practical AI literacy.

The evening will include a short facilitated session, live examples, community discussion, and time to explore the PCC Willow Creek AI Lab space and connect with others thinking critically about how AI is changing work. Centered on nonprofits, but broadly relevant to students, technologists, and anyone interested in responsible AI adoption in practice.
