SUMMARY: The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) is seeking a seasoned, mission-driven Director of Accounting Services to lead our Finance Team and oversee the full range of accounting operations. This leader will ensure accurate financial processes, reporting, and compliance, while also investing in the growth and development of a small but vital team.
This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives at the intersection of financial excellence, team leadership, and faith-based service. The successful candidate will bring strong nonprofit, educational and/or faith-based institution accounting expertise, a process-improvement mindset, and a collaborative leadership style rooted in integrity and purpose.
The position will be based out of CBF’s office in Decatur, Ga.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Financial Operations Leadership
– Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
– Oversee reconciliations of all bank accounts, donor platforms (Salesforce), and CBF Foundation transactions.
– Approve all fund transfers, wires, payables and other transactions with a focus on internal controls and accuracy.
– Lead the payroll administration process (UKG system) for all staff, ensuring precision and compliance.
– Administer financial systems, maintaining security and integrity (Truist, Dynamics, Salesforce, SAP Concur).
• Financial Reporting and Budgeting
– Lead the preparation and distribution of accurate financial reports for departments, State and Regional Organizations, and leadership.
– Coordinate and prepare all annual budgeting templates and processes, partnering with department heads and other leadership.
– Upload and manage budget data within the financial systems.
– Identify, investigate, and correct discrepancies in departmental financials.
• Audit and Compliance Management
– Serve as a liaison to external auditors for CBF and CBF Foundation.
– Coordinate audit processes and communicate updates to executive leadership.
– Maintain strong internal control processes and compliance practices.
• Team Leadership and Development
– Directly supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other finance staff.
– Foster a team culture centered on collaboration, accountability, and continuous professional growth.
– Partner cross-functionally with staff across departments to ensure the Finance team is a trusted, service-oriented partner.

REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Required — Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 8 years of experience in an accounting role and minimum of 3-5 years of leadership or supervisory capacity.
SKILLS: Strong background in nonprofit accounting or fund accounting preferred Skills and Attributes | Demonstrated Christian character, ethical integrity, and commitment to CBF’s mission| Deep understanding of financial systems, internal controls, and nonprofit GAAP| Proficiency in financial and accounting software (e.g., Dynamics GP, UKG, Salesforce, SAP Concur, Management Reporter) | Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with cloud-based tools| Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational abilities | Skilled in cross-functional communication and collaboration | Proven ability to manage deadlines and work with a high degree of accuracy | Sound judgment, confidentiality, and grace under pressure.
