Objective of the Position 

The role of the Digital Account Director is to direct and manage the digital direct response program for non-profit organizations, maintain strong client relationships, provide leadership within the Digital Department, and develop new service areas to give the company a competitive edge, all under the guidance of a member of the leadership or executive team.  

Job Summary 

The Digital Account Director is responsible for developing the multi-year strategic vision for clients’ digital programs, including email, web, text, ads and other channels, with an eye toward the clients’ overall growth goals. The Digital Account Director builds the annual digital budget projections, which may include cash flow projections – or on smaller accounts, may oversee the work of other team members. The Digital Account Director communicates regularly with the clients and internal team about overall digital results for all digital channels, campaign results, and progress toward annual goals, taking the lead on new ideas as needed to ensure goals are met. The Digital Account Director ensures regular written reports are sent to the clients, and will directly handle ad hoc reports such as executive summaries for Boards and Senior Leadership.    

The Digital Account Director is responsible for maintaining strong client relationships, including initiating regular contact with clients and responding to urgent client needs.  The Digital Account Director is also responsible for ensuring that account supervisors are apprised of the status of the campaign and any potential client issues that could impact the relationship between the client and the firm, as well as any internal team issues that need to be addressed.   

The Digital Account Director should have a detailed understanding of direct response fundraising, be well-versed in giving at all levels and through alternative giving methods, and the ability to work as part of a multi-channel team to exceed client needs and drive fundraising forward. The Digital Account Director is charged with identifying areas of digital growth for our clients, selling new ideas, programs and tools that ensure innovation for our clients, and expand our scope.  

The Digital Account Director is responsible for serving as the supervisor of multiple members of the Digital Account team. They are also responsible for helping to build the expertise and offerings of the Digital Department, whether that means spearheading new areas of service, hiring additional staff, or developing partnerships within the industry. In terms of building the expertise of the Digital Account team, the Digital Account Director identifies where training is needed, and either works with the Training Committee or Executive Vice President overseeing Digital to develop and provide the appropriate training and procedure documents.  

The Digital Account Director is charged with new business development, following up with potential client leads and participating in the RFP process. To facilitate that, the Digital Account Director is expected to cultivate a presence in the industry, representing Lautman Maska Neill & Company at industry events and volunteering on committees.    

The Digital Account Director should be a leader in the firm, bringing added value by initiating special projects or initiatives that will further develop company offerings, processes or culture.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Maintains strong relationship with clients and reports up to Vice President, Executive Vice President, Principle or Partner to keep them apprised of all accounts.  
  • Works closely with client to develop the overall vision and KPIs for the digital program, strategizing on every digital channel available  
  • Builds, or oversees creation of, annual client budget, and maps out segmentation and testing strategies to hit overall organizational goals and drive the program forward  
  • Leads the team in the development of individual campaign strategy and tests, incorporating big picture analysis and innovative creative ideas to help drive to not only the campaign goals, but overall programmatic goals.   
  • Proactively discusses progress toward annual goals in client meetings as it pertains to all digital channels – potentially email, text, web and ads – within our scope of work.  
  • Confidently communicates about digital strategy and how to pivot, potentially selling clients on new channels, campaigns or tools.  
  • Manages the team executing email, text and web campaigns, ensuring procedures and schedule are followed, and all campaigns go out on time and error-free.  
  • Provides creative oversight for copy and art, ensuring that we’re presenting highly creative, strategic and meaningful creative that will compel the audience to action  
  • Has proactive and constant eye on results, communicating with the team and client on campaign results in real time and taking the lead on critical strategy decisions or recommendations  
  • Oversees the writing of campaign reports and written analysis and recommendations  
  • Takes lead on bigger picture analysis, possibly working with outside analytics partners, with an eye toward big findings and take-aways that shift strategy and results in a significant way.   
  • Oversees team roles and responsibilities on each account and proactively makes suggestions for changes as needed based on team dynamics and results.  
  • Develops strong working relationships with Analytics Director, Art Director and Advertising Director to ensure teams are working well together, and that the company maintains a competitive edge in our digital creative and analytics   
  • Supervises multiple Digital Account staff, adhering to all supervisory procedures  
  • Handles Digital Department billing on a monthly basis and leads the monthly Digital Department meetings.    
  • Works with company leadership to continually build the expertise of, and offerings within, the Digital Department through training, staffing strategy, new service offerings, or partnerships in the industry.  
  • Regularly reports out and guides discussion with staff on digital trends, issues, new ideas and testing reports in Digital Department meetings and staff meetings.  
  • Oversees Digital Department procedures, proactively refining and adding new processes as needed, and then training appropriate staff.  
  • Seeks out training sessions, industry conferences or seminars to build skills and stay abreast of digital or direct response fundraising trends.  
  • Participates in new business proposals and vetting potential clients.  
  • Cultivates a presence in the industry through volunteering, speaking or writing for internal and industry publications to develop a network of professionals within the industry that helps us build new business.  
  • In consultation with their supervisor, develops and spearheads special projects or initiative within the company that will further develop company offerings, processes, or culture.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Job Requirements 

  • 8-10 years of experience in fundraising and/or direct marketing 
  • Detailed knowledge of direct response fundraising, digital fundraising, and advocacy campaign execution, including analysis and budgeting, expertise with multiple digital platforms, and ability to develop compelling copy for a variety of causes 
  • Strong experience with digital advertising 
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized 
  • Flexible and able to multi-task, managing multiple projects and deadlines 
  • Strong analytical skills 
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity and proven ability to manage staff 
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
