Founded in 1994, Science Club for Girls fosters excitement, confidence, and literacy in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for girls, young women, and gender-expansive youth from underrepresented communities with free, experiential community-based programs. With women making up less than 29 percent of the STEM workforce—and Black and Latina women at less than 4 percent—SCFG addresses a critical need, offering a continuum of programming for grades K-12 including engaging activities in STEM for K-8 participants, leadership experiences for high school-aged Junior Mentors, and adult mentoring and role modeling by committed women with STEM careers. Over the last 14 years, over 90% of our high school juniors and seniors have gone on to college, with over 55% of our alumni majoring in STEM.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • SCFG has been on a consistent upwards trajectory – more than tripling the number of girls served over the past 5 years — and is now seeking a Director of Operations to support our continued growth and expansion. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Operations will ensure operational excellence, oversee core administrative functions, and contribute to a positive team culture that embraces diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Specifically, the Director of Operations will:
  • Provide oversight of day-to-day operations, inclusive of developing, formalizing, and/or improving upon standard operating procedures, policies, and systems across human resources, technology, and facilities management.
  • Serve as a helpful and action-oriented resource for a 16-member team of full- and part-time staff, ensuring staff have the operational support they need to perform their jobs. Proactively identify solutions to improve efficiency in a fast-paced growth environment.
  • Codify, institute, and manage processes for hiring, onboarding, developing, and evaluating staff. Work with external consultants to implement HR policies (e.g., PTO reporting, benefits administration, health and safety compliance.)
  • Identify and organize team-wide training opportunities related to SCFG’s mission, such as diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; unconscious bias; trauma-informed practices.
  • Oversee facilities management for office space and storage units. In close partnership with the Executive Director, manage the logistics for an office move in 2024.
  • With support from an external IT consultant, serve as the organizational lead for SCFG’s Salesforce database, ensuring that the system is optimized for use across all departments.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external vendors, including managing service agreements and institutional accounts, tracking licenses and other renewals, and maintaining ongoing relationships.
  • Liaise as needed with the Finance Manager on issues related to purchasing, billing, payroll, and budget management.
  • As a member of the senior management team, contribute to guiding the overall organizational strategic direction, decision-making, prioritization, and goals.
  • Play an active role in advancing SCFG’s commitments to anti-racism and fostering a work environment that is rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and a shared sense of team accountability.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You are inspired by SCFG’s mission and values. You are excited to join a team that is committed to removing barriers and addressing the gender gap in STEM. You thrive in a work environment that values community, scientific thinking, lifelong learning, leadership, joyfulness, and a commitment to gender and racial equity. A personal connection to Boston and/or Cambridge neighborhoods where SCFG operates is a plus.
  • You are a system- and process-minded operations professional. You bring at least 8 years of experience with prior management and/or exposure to all aspects of business operations, e.g., technology, human resources, facilities, vendor management. You are experienced in creating and refining standard operating procedures. Experience in Salesforce and/or similar CRM databases is a must.
  • You are an adaptable, agile, and resourceful “doer.” You thrive in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to stay focused and nimble in the face of growth and change. You are a self-starter with a “get-it-done” attitude and willingness to jump in without being asked. You proactively anticipate problems and design solutions that enhance efficiency, productivity, and employee experience.
  • You are a well-organized task and project manager. You are experienced in leading and/or supporting multiple projects, with the ability to guide staff and vendors through all stages of execution. You have strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work under tight deadlines. You work well with uncertainty and can begin moving a project forward before all of the specifics are worked out.
  • You are committed to anti-racism and fostering a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. You bring self-awareness and active listening when working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. You approach operations through a DEIB lens, ensuring that systems, policies, and processes are fair and equitable for all employees.
