Constituent and community data privacy

Nonprofit organizations have legal and ethical responsibilities to protect the personally-identifiable information (PII) they collect from constituents, donors, volunteers, members, champions, service recipients, and other groups. And thanks to the expansion of domestic and international privacy regulations, the public has a growing expectation that sensitive information (email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, giving history, financial capacity, demographics, and more) will be protected and secure.

This course will explore data privacy laws that currently, or may in the future, apply to your organization. You’ll learn how to draft and implement a privacy policy that governs the collection and use of personally-identifiable information, as well as plan for forensics and communication strategies in the event of a data breach. Overall, you’ll learn best practices and simple, proactive measures that you can take to ensure compliance and data privacy.
