Success Measures Manager, Marketing & Communication

Purpose of Division:

Success Measures operates as a social enterprise within NeighborWorks® America, a Congressionally chartered national nonprofit intermediary serving the housing and community development field. Over the last 20 years, Success Measures has gained national recognition through its evaluation and learning work with more than 1,000 local and national organizations, funders, and intermediary partners who are working to improve the places, systems, conditions and supports needed to create healthy and equitable communities.

Success Measures’ services include evaluation and strategic learning consulting and technical assistance to support nonprofit and philanthropic organizations that want to understand the results of their programs and investments in communities and systems. This work is rooted in the principles of participatory evaluation, including a longstanding commitment to intentional, equitable practices that help residents, nonprofits, and foundations understand and strengthen their impact through collaborative evaluation and learning processes that are inclusive, practical, and purposeful. Position Summary:

The Manager, Success Measures Marketing and Communications ensures that Success Measures clearly articulates its mission, vision, work, and expertise to a wide variety of stakeholders. This role has the primary responsibility for developing and executing communications to grow the Success Measures audience, client base, and impact by overseeing the strategy, day-to-day execution, and performance of internally and externally facing communications.

Essential Responsibilities:

1.   Oversee the planning, creation, and production of all Success Measures’ branded collateral, working with staff and supported by contractors, including:  

·       Create content for the Success Measures website, social media, and newsletter.

·       Work with the developer to update the website.

·       Manage the distribution of the newsletter by working with the NeighborWorks America corporate communications team.

·       Write content for thought leadership articles, website news & events, public-facing announcements, and other material related to Success Measures’ work and relevant public policy issues, supported by staff, consultants, and corporate Marketing & Communications as needed.

·       Monitor web, email, and social media metrics to analyze the efficacy of Success Measures’ communications.

·       Create branded collateral and general branding materials, including printed materials, speeches, presentations, and blog posts.

·       Ensure that Success Measures uses consistent and correct branding and messaging across a variety of communications platforms and media.

2.   Lead editor of high-priority materials developed through client projects that are produced by Success Measures staff and contractors, including:

·       Edit written reports and evaluations.

·       Edit materials and infographics to convey complex information. 

·       Develop style guides and templates to guide contractors and staff.

3.  Lead project management for all Success Measures marketing and communications, including:

·       Create and maintain project schedules and timelines.

·       Manage relationships with outside vendors and contractors, as necessary.

·       Liaison with the NeighborWorks America corporate communications team, as necessary.

·       Manage the marketing budget.

·       Prepare agendas and lead the weekly marketing meeting attended by key Success Measures staff.

4. Support the business development effort, including:

·       Respond to inquiries and enter new contacts into the Salesforce CRM. Support prospect research.

·       Support business development proposals and outreach communications.

·       Track events, conferences, and other business development opportunities. Manage conference submissions and presentation logistics.

·       Success Measures team, including staff, consultants, and vendors.

·       NeighborWorks America and NeighborWorks network leadership and staff.

·       External partner organizations and clients.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

(a)   Education: College level degree, certification(s) and/or equivalent relevant work experience

(b)   Experience:

·       Minimum of five (5) years experience in marketing and communications, journalism, editorial or related roles.

·       Experience working for a social impact or nonprofit organization, government institution, policymaker, or for-profit company with a social impact dimension.

·       Experience working in the community development sector is a plus, such as housing, neighborhood revitalization, community engagement, health outcomes, financial security, resident leadership, and arts and culture, or adjacent fields such as public health or economic development.

(d)   Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely. Ability to create rough drafts quickly, preparing high-quality final drafts.

·       Demonstrated ability to communicate core concepts, creative approaches and writing for different audiences.

·       Experience writing for and managing websites, social media, newsletters, email, and content management systems.

·       High level of accuracy and attention to detail in finished work.  

·       Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, monitoring, and completing complex projects and facilitating related meetings.

·       Excellent organizational skills demonstrated across a range of processes and procedures.

·       Experience/interest in managing or developing graphic design or visual materials a plus.

  • Excellent listening and critical thinking skills including reflection and synthesis.

·       Ability to prioritize and manage multiple work activities in a fast-paced team environment and consistently meet deadlines.

·       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and successfully interact with people at all levels and of diverse socio-economic backgrounds both inside and outside the organization.

  • Ability to clarify assignments and expectations and work independently.

(f) Technology: Microsoft Office Suite; Zoom or other virtual meeting technology. WordPress, Canva, and Salesforce familiarity is a plus.
