Senior Program Manager, Health Departments & Community Partnerships

KFF is an independent source of health policy research, polling, and journalism. Our mission is to serve as a nonpartisan and trusted source of information for policymakers, the media, the health policy community, and the public.

KFF has four major program areas: KFF Policy; KFF Polling; KFF Health News (formerly known as Kaiser Health News, or KHN); and KFF Social Impact Media.

Our Social Impact Media program is seeking a Senior Program Manager for health department and community partnerships.

KFF Social Impact Media produces and places social marketing campaigns on HIV, STIs, and other health issues to reach disproportionately affected communities with accessible, trusted information; see Greater Than HIV / STIs and Greater Than COVID.

We work with state and local health departments on localized iterations of our campaigns designed to address local priorities and extend the reach of limited public resources.

We also have a large-scale ongoing partnership with Walgreens to bring health department and community partners into stores on National HIV Testing Day (June 27) to provide free testing and the latest in prevention and treatment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as day-to-day point of contact for health department partners;
  • Create and execute work plans to meet partnership objectives;
  • Develop media plans and propose assets to meet health department messaging priorities, audiences, goals, and budget;
  • Work with graphic designer/editor to localize and ready assets for placement;
  • Manage production of printed and digital community materials, including for our annual National HIV Testing Day event with Walgreens;
  • Coordinate with media buying agency(s), including packaging and delivering approved media assets for placement;
  • Monitor plan performance, providing regular updates to team and partners, and suggesting adjustments, as needed;
  • Process contracts and invoices;
  • Contribute to proposals and reports;
  • Work with leadership and community organizations to promote and extend the reach of our campaigns;
  • Share insights and priorities from the health department and community partners to inform broader strategy.

Minimum Desired Skills and Experience:

  • At least eight years experience in health communications, social marketing and/or digital media; familiarity with HIV and sexual health issues beneficial;
  • Skilled in project management in a fast-paced environment;
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously both independently and collaboratively with colleagues;
  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Proactive and adept at taking ownership of projects with the manager’s oversight;
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Workplace (Documents, Sheets, etc.); prior experience with Asana is a plus.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

A preference is for this position to be based full-time in KFF’s San Francisco headquarters. KFF is currently working a hybrid schedule and requires all staff to work in the office a minimum of two days a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays).

We will consider candidates based outside of the Bay Area with a demonstrated track record working remotely. Remote candidates must be willing to travel for in-person meetings.
