Manager of Regional Organizing (Midwest)

Work Location: Remote within the United States, with travel for organizational events and retreats
This position is an exempt, full-time, bargaining unit eligible position for Caring Across Generations recognized union.
About Caring Across Generations
Caring Across Generations is a national organization working to make care more affordable and accessible at every stage of life while making sure caregivers are treated with respect and dignity. Founded in 2011 by Sarita Gupta and Ai-jen Poo, our campaign is focused on creating change in three ways: organizing a powerful movement of the Caring Majority — the majority of Americans who are directly affected by the need for care; fighting for groundbreaking policy at the state and federal level; and changing hearts and minds through storytelling, pop culture interventions, and cultural organizing
Position Summary
The Manager of Regional Organizing (Midwest) working with the Director of State Campaigns, will grow our base of coalition partner organizations across the Midwest of the US. The Manager of Regional Organizing (Midwest) will work to build power, create events, and facilitate spaces across Care Can’t Wait Coalitions building power to win affordable childcare, paid family and medical leave, and support for loved ones who are aging or living with a disability. The Manager of Regional Organizing (Midwest) will be heavily invested in building relationships with grassroots and grasstops partners. Beyond the relationship building, the Manager of Regional Organizing (Midwest) will also be responsible for creating organizing moments for our wide coalitions of partner organizations working on the 3 pillars of care. This position will have an “ear to the ground” and strong partner relationships to build power across
pillars of care that are timely and strategic. This position will also bring leaders together at key moments to support the federal Care Infrastructure agenda.
I. Organizing and Recruitment (50% of FTE)
Recruit, organize, and develop a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-class, multi-generational grassroots base of thought partners serving communities of unpaid family caregivers, people with disabilities, and seniors, with a focus on developing BIPOC family caregivers,' to win Care policy.
○ Develop, lead, and implement regular in-person and digital activations for our regional networks that further the agenda of an equitable care system
○ With the Director of State Campaigns and Digital Campaign develop moments for political action across the 3 pillars of care across the Midwestern region. ○ With support from our policy team, digital team, and culture change team to build and implement pressure tactics to increase awareness of the issues facing our movement
○ Cultivate and build relationships with partners and organizations that focus on paid leave, child care, and aging and disability care.
○ Cultivate and build relationships with partners who focus on a wide range of progressive issues from race, to environmental justice, to class, to gender justice, to workers' rights.
○ Regularly attend and support events and actions from partners in the movement ○ Connect the dots for partners and grassroots leaders around racial justice, class equity, gender equality, disability justice, health and economic policy, workers’ rights, and the growing need to reimagine and rebuild a care infrastructure that works for all.
II. Coalition Work (30% of FTE)
● Agenda planning and facilitation of meetings and trainings.
● Follow-up meetings and conversations with stakeholders transitioning into the CCW Coalition
● Mobilize local grassroots, grasstops, labor, and care-aligned leaders to support federal campaign actions and events to move our Care agenda at the federal level.
● Lead well-planned and executed base-building meetings.
● Identify and assist with co-branded digital and media campaigns that promote the Campaign’s priorities
● Consistently identify and offer opportunities
III. Care Fellowship and training (10% of FTE) ● Support the coordination, facilitation, and agenda development of monthly meetings with active care fellowship cohorts.
● Support leadership development team to identify opportunities for training and recruitment of potential care fellows
● Track the development and participation of care fellows in regional work
IV. CAG Responsibilities (10% of FTE) ● Participate in all staff meetings, staff study, and retreats.
● Attend weekly supervisory meetings
● Complete work plans and reports in a timely manner.
● Develop and satisfy a Professional Development Plan.
Qualifications
We’re seeking candidates who excel in organizing advocacy campaigns, are results-oriented, can be self-directed, and have exceptional project management skills.
● 5+ years of experience working for causes and movements at the state or local level with a demonstrated experience with organizing and coalition-building
● Demonstrated experience in the implementation of advocacy strategy focused on building power to win an equitable care system for all
● Strong strategic and campaign planning skills and commitment to processes that ensure transparency and communication in carrying out the work.
● Experience leading and implementing various pressure tactics, events, and political moments to further the care agenda
● Demonstrated experience using digital tools for recruitment, storytelling, and advocacy
● Familiarity with larger progressive movement players, partners, and allies from the care movement and beyond
● Comfort speaking about the importance of intersectional movements and organizing ● Strong motivation and adaptability, including the ability to work under pressure and with deadlines;
● Ability to operationalize vision, think strategically, innovate, creatively problem solve, exercise good judgment
● Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with a demonstrated passion for the Caring Across mission and commitment to working collaboratively ● Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people; ● Demonstrated experience working effectively in a team environment ● A demonstrated commitment to racial equity, gender justice, and to building a multicultural, anti-racist organization.
