Job Description

The Digital Marketing Manager will help City Parks Alliance communicate the benefits of urban parks and recreation to current and potential members, policymakers, and other stakeholders. The Digital Marketing Manager’s primary responsibilities will be to manage and leverage the Alliance’s digital communications, including email, web, and social media, to promote programming and build awareness among and engagement with current and potential members, decision-makers, and other influencers. This is a full-time position. The Manager will report to the Communications & Marketing Director.

Position Duties

Digital Marketing Implementation (50%)

Develop, implement, and execute email marketing campaigns - including writing copy, creating graphics, building and testing emails, and monitoring performance - in support of City Parks Alliance’s program, thought leadership, fundraising, and membership goals.

Write website copy, build webpages, and monitor the performance of website content across City Parks Alliance’s three websites (www.cityparksalliance.org, www.greatergreener.org, www.mayorsforparks.org), including program promotion, event registration, resource libraries, thought leadership and storytelling blogs, membership, and fundraising content.

Manage content development and production of City Parks Alliance’s two monthly e-newsletters, and monitor performance and adjust tactics as appropriate.

Manage City Parks Alliance’s social media calendar and day-to-day operations of the organization’s social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube).

Create social media, email, and website graphics using Canva or other design tools.

Ensure consistent brand messaging and visual style across all digital marketing communications.

Partner with fundraising and conference staff to ensure sponsor obligations for social media/website/email sponsor recognition or sponsored content are met and supported.

Strategy & Planning (20%)

Support the research, development, and implementation of digital marketing tactics in partnership with the Communications & Marketing Director to grow the organization’s brand awareness and optimize engagement (e.g., SEO, Google Ads, A/B testing, etc.), and lead the implementation of tactics.

Partner with Communications & Marketing Director to develop an annual content strategy and calendar, which includes setting annual communications goals and schedule.

Support Communications & Marketing Director in creating systems and protocols to streamline and improve communications and marketing initiatives.

Technology (20%)

Support Communications & Marketing Director in a multi-year effort to upgrade and improve City Parks Alliance’s technology (websites, Salesforce database, etc.) providing input and support for implementation.

Partner with the Communications & Marketing Director and various contractors (e.g. website, database, etc.) to ensure the smooth operation of City Parks Alliance’s digital marketing technology.

Administrative (10%)

Participate in staff, program, and conference coordination meetings, and other administrative duties.

Some limited travel (5-10 days per year) is required for this position particularly if the staff member is located outside of the Washington, DC metro area. Travel includes City Parks Alliance twice/year staff retreats (in person at City Parks Alliance’s offices in Washington, DC) and the bi-annual Greater & Greener conference (June 2024 in Seattle).

Qualifications & Skills 

Associate's or Bachelor’s degree, plus 5-7 years of experience in digital marketing, communications, or public relations.

Strong knowledge of best practices in digital marketing, website management, social media, and email campaigns.

Strong writing and editing abilities.

Proficiency in content management systems and digital marketing tools is required. Experience with WordPress is strongly preferred.

Proven experience developing and executing content strategies across multiple platforms including mass email, social media, and web.

Familiarity with digital and social media best practices.

Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining brand consistency.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

Team player and problem solver. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and in a remote office setting with a small team.

Experience in nonprofit/public sector communications and an interest in the role of city parks and recreation in building more equitable and resilient cities.

Graphic design, photography, and video editing experience a plus.

Compensation

  • Annual Salary: $55,000 - $65,000

  • 15 days per year vacation (first three years with increases thereafter)

  • 12 days per year sick leave

  • City Parks Alliance is located at 1777 Church Street, NW, Washington, DC, but offers options for fully remote work, or combined remote and in-person work for those in the DC area. If remote, preference for Eastern time zone.
