Data Services Analyst

Candid is looking for a data services analyst who is eager to help the social sector by providing our clients and partners the data, insights, and reporting they need to do good.

Position: Data Services Analyst

Reporting to: Senior Data Services Manager

Supervises: N/A

Schedule: 35-hour work week, Monday through Friday

Location: Flexible. In-person attendance is expected during our annual, weeklong all-staff summit. Additionally, participation in in-person meetings is expected at least once per year for most employees, and at least once per quarter for senior leaders.

Compensation: $45,000 - $73,000 (this range is for the NYC area and will be adjusted for other localities; additionally, factors like skills and experience will be considered).

Position Summary

The Data Services Analyst will work with a team of data experts to deliver valuable data services, insights, and reporting about the social sector to a wide range of external and internal stakeholders every day. This client-facing and technical role will help shape the way we deliver data services products to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver custom data sets to customers - working with the sales team to scope client needs, consulting on the generation of sales estimates, client communication, design, documentation, and delivery of the custom data extracts, and post-delivery client support.
  • Build and maintain high-quality reporting and analysis solutions to provide the best possible data solutions to our customers.
  • Participate and/or own the technical development and enhancements to the Candid Nonprofit Compensation Report which uses natural language processing to understand trends of executive compensation in the social sector.
  • Participate in Data Operations agile/scrum meetings.
  • Increase organizational efficiencies through the design and implementation of automated processes wherever possible.
  • Design, build, and maintain technical frameworks for our team – enabling us to develop and deliver consistent, high-quality data sets quickly.
  • Design, build, and maintain visualization dashboards for stakeholders to better understand our data.
  • Accountable for building and maintaining Data Services product offerings.
  • Document and share developed code for peer review and also, peer review other team members' work.
  • Partner and collaborate with internal teams on cross-departmental projects.
  • Taking on special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Analytical

  • Detail-oriented yet “big picture” in approach to assignments.
  • Experience in gathering requirements from stakeholders and providing data solutions that meet those needs
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize large quantities of data into digestible and actionable packages for stakeholders
  • Ability to apply various mathematical calculations and statistical techniques to datasets

Technical

  • Proficient in writing moderate to complex SQL working against large relational databases
  • Experience in using SQL Server Tools such as SQL Integration Services, Reporting Services, and Management Studio to build, maintain, and execute large, repeated data extracts a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to write R, Python, and related languages a plus.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI and Tableau is a plus.
  • Experience with machine learning or natural language processing is a plus.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for source and version control is a plus.
  • Experience with Snowflake and AWS for cloud computing is a plus.

  • Strong listener - able to take in, understand, and respond to the needs of a wide variety of stakeholders with differing levels of technical and/or non-profit knowledge.
  • Able to 'translate' business needs to more technically oriented teammates and vice-versa.

  • Professional and polished in communications of all types.
  • Comfortable reaching out to internal and external stakeholders to solve problems.
  • Works comfortably and competently under minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to perform other duties and special projects as needed/requested.

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Knowledge of non-profit data or the non-profit sector is a big plus

Education/Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical subject, business, economics, math, accounting, or similar subjects preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated successful completion of quantitative and database-related courses or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience.
