Action Against Hunger’s External Relations Department seeks a resourceful and detail-oriented Communications Associate who believes in the power of storytelling to mobilize public support for humanitarian crises and the fight to end hunger. This individual has some familiarity with international development and humanitarian issues, is a quick learner, demonstrates curiosity about our work and issues, and excels in supporting projects under tight deadlines. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Communications, the Communications Associate will be responsible for helping the Communications team to stay organized through administrative support and knowledge management, and will also research, write, and edit a broad range of communications assets.

Purpose: Support content development to drive the organization’s communications strategy and increase our brand visibility. Help to keep the communications team organized.
Engagement: Report directly to the Associate Director of Communications and collaborate with other members of the External Relations team. Work closely with our teams in the field and across the organization’s global Network. Engage our audience (partners as well as potential and existing donors) on subjects related to the organization’s activities and mission. Expand outreach and promote brand awareness through creative storytelling. Help the communications team stay organized by maintaining key internal tools.
Delivery: Support the content production of creative assets to engage and grow our audience through our website, digital marketing, social media, and traditional media through drafting content, posting collateral, and providing administrative support.
Essential Job Duties
- Support internal processes through knowledge management, updating key assets and tools (e.g., fact sheets, spokesperson tracker, data tracker, project management platforms, our assets library, media mentions), and other internal processes.
- Supports the Communications team with editing and creating communications collateral and background documents.
- Supports the Associate Director of Communications with drafting PowerPoint presentations.
- Drafts and edits content and uses WordPress (content management system) and SEO tools to enter content for the website.
- Takes notes during briefings with expert staff to inform communications efforts and during team meetings.
- Scans media outlets, program updates, and other sources for key information about our program activities and sector and shares summaries with the team.
- Contributes to a weekly editorial calendar.

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment
- The duties of the job require regular job attendance at least five days per week. Must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required by contact with the missions, mission security, or other obligations.
- Must be able to travel as required for standard domestic and international business travel as well as to the missions if appropriate. While visiting the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high-security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required

- 1-2 years of work experience.
- Interest in international development and humanitarian work.
- Strong skills in professional writing, editing, and story development.
- Highly organized with strong project management skills.
- Proficient in PowerPoint.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Skilled problem solver, adept at identifying challenges and recommending solutions proactively.
- Experience with website content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress is a plus.
