YOUR POSITION WITH TNC
The Associate Director of Philanthropy for Corporate and Foundation Relations (ADoP CFR) works closely with the philanthropy team to plan, implement, and coordinate effective multi-year strategies and plans for gift prospects, focusing on corporate and foundation donors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Associate Director of Philanthropy CFR is responsible for managing a portfolio of qualified donors and building strong relationships. They understand and apply complex principles of developing donor strategies. They are responsible for direct asks to global, North America and Oregon priorities to meet funding needs. They develop opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving. They build strong partnerships internally in the field and at the Worldwide Office to build aspirational donor proposals, often against tight deadlines, and to cultivate and steward donors. They keep internal partners apprised of interactions, issues and/or concerns, and address questions as needed. They demonstrate strong writing and presentational skills and the capability to feature the programs of the Conservancy in detailed terms, using technology adeptly. They manage projects to create complex proposals with many partners, understand project budgets, build proposal budgets utilizing this knowledge, collaborate with finance staff to track and report project expenses, and provide timely and accurate donor reports. They comply with due diligence and risk assessment processes of the Conservancy. They play an integral role as a member of the philanthropy team, supporting, collaborating with, and sharing learnings with other team members. They develop relationships with trustees and utilize a referral network as needed. They use the Conservancy’s donor database effectively to plan and document their donor interactions.
RESPONSIBILITES & SCOPE
• Manage a portfolio of corporate/foundation donors. Responsible for 70–90 moves and 10–15 letters of intent or proposals annually. Meet annual fundraising goal of $1,000,000 or more.
• Persuasively convey the mission of TNC to diverse groups who are important to the organization’s overall financial health.
• Act independently and in the supervisor’s stead as needed, and exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
• Make decisions that may have a program-wide impact and bind the organization financially or legally.
• Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
• Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
• Exercise financial responsibility, including working within a budget, and recommending and meeting fundraising goals.
• Manage and implement multiple projects, directing work of staff, managing budgets, and setting deadlines.
• Direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
• May supervise support or administrative staff.
• May travel frequently and on short notice, work long and flexible hours as needed.
• Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience or an equivalent combination.
• Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
• Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $50,000 or more.
• Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams, preferably in a large non-profit.
• Experience working with fundraising principles and practices.
• Experience, coursework, or other training in current trends in charitable giving in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts or planned giving.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated. Ability to design and manage fundraising plans, including individualized cultivation, solicitation and recognition plans. Ability to determine an organization’s interests, capacity and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals, and act appropriately to tie those interests with the Conservancy’s work. Demonstrated writing and presentational ability. Experience managing the creation of fundraising proposals and budgets against deadlines. Demonstrated experience using listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships toward motivating donors and collaborating with colleagues. Proven ability to negotiate complex, high profile or sensitive agreements and conduct appropriate due diligence in accordance with Conservancy guidance.
SALARY INFORMATION Estimated starting salary is $91,400 - $100,900/annually, dependent on qualifications and experience.
