Associate Director, Digital Fundraising

POSITION SUMMARY: 

 The Associate Director, Digital Fundraising is a seasoned fundraiser with experience in all aspects of digital fundraising for single-gift and monthly donors and can build programs that increase lifetime revenue from donors and return on investment (ROI) for Project HOPE.

He/she/they should be a detail-oriented self-starter who can work cross-functionally in a matrixed environment on the strategy and implementation of digital fundraising programs. This includes creating the overall strategic plan, optimizing the donor journey and lifecycle, building, monitoring, and reporting on budgets, managing investments, and establishing KPIs for vendor management and accountability. This role partners closely with mass market channel and audience managers on digital giving strategies. 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead the fundraising strategy across digital channels and audiences, including email, paid search, paid advertising, SMS, P2P, innovation, and fundraising through website for both one-time and monthly giving.
  • Oversee the donor lifecycle and journey as it relates to lead gen, acquisition, onboarding, cultivation/engagement, and retention of online acquired donors; work cross-functionally with channel managers to increase revenue by ensuring an exceptional donor experience.
  • Directly supervise the Digital Fundraising Manager to provide leadership and mentorship.
  • Develop annual and multi-year budgets for digital fundraising with clear KPIs, with responsibility for meeting these metrics. Continually monitor results and provide regular reports to key stakeholders, reforecasting when necessary.
  • Manage digital fundraising agencies to establish KPIs, monitor investments, test and onboard, and hold accountable. 
  • Collaborate with external agencies and Development and Communications teams, including Leadership and Legacy, Corporate Partnerships, Communications, and Marketing, to develop high-level digital fundraising campaign calendar, cadence, target audience, messaging, and channel plans, as part of a broader organizational fundraising and integrated marketing strategy.
  • Work with internal teams and external agencies to optimize digital mid-level and sustainer growth – focusing on acquisition, retention, and upgrade strategies and ensuring optimal donor journeys, operations, and treatment across digital channels.
  • Oversee digital testing roadmap to optimize website, donation pages, audience targeting, user experiences, and revenue growth across online channels. Ensure test and learn plans are continually implemented, refined, and acted upon.
  • Lead the digital rapid response and emergency fundraising strategy – which includes non-traditional working hours with very tight turn-around times.
  • Ensure back-end systems and processes run at the highest efficiency and meet best practice standards. Review, refine, and recommend new systems or processes as needed.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends for digital fundraising, technology, tactics, and creative approaches, and recommend new testing and investment opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 10 years of experience in a fast-paced, multi-faceted marketing or fundraising environment, preferably in international organizations.
  • Deep experience growing digital files and managing digital agencies to meet performance and investment metrics across email, website, paid search, and display, as well as testing and exploring new digital channels.
  • Experience launching rapid-response digital campaigns, especially during global disasters.
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff and agencies and insuring KPIs are met.
  • Ability to analyze data and make strategic decisions based on trends.
  • A high attention to detail and organization.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, work independently in partnership with teams, manage time effectively, and follow through on tasks/responsibilities.
  • Experience and expertise with professional communications/interactions; Ability to build relationships remotely.
  • Proven success in management of competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral, as well as proofreading.

  • Typical office environment with exposure to a minimal noise level. 
  • Emergency deployments may be in resource-deprived environments with austere living conditions.
  • Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation. 
  • While international travel is not a regular part of every job, programmatic needs may require it intermittently. 
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.”

Salary range starting at $106,000 USD per year based on candidates residing in the US. Compensation for the role is dependent on several factors including a candidate’s location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
