Legal considerations with AI

Artificial intelligence offers powerful opportunities for nonprofits - but it also introduces new legal, privacy, and governance responsibilities. This course provides nonprofit leaders with a clear, practical understanding of how to adopt AI tools responsibly and confidently. Through five structured segments, participants will learn the regulatory basics of AI, how privacy and confidentiality obligations intersect with AI use, and how to identify appropriate use cases that align with mission and values.

Participants will explore common risks, vendor contract requirements, and the operational steps necessary for creating an effective AI governance framework. Real-world nonprofit scenarios illustrate what can go wrong and how to put protective guardrails in place before deploying new tools.

By the end of the course, learners will be equipped with the knowledge to evaluate AI-enabled platforms, ask the right questions of vendors, avoid common pitfalls, and build a roadmap toward ethical and compliant AI adoption within their organization.
