Things We Like (February 2014)

A monthly roundup of our favorite nonprofit tech resources and other goodies. Read more posts on our blog.

  1. Join Media Impact Funders to learn how philanthropically funded productions are transforming audiences and sparking social change. Join the livestream on March 5th.
  2. Looking for a way to easily turn big data sets into visualizations? Gapminder lets you upload your own, or work with data sets from national and international organizations.
  3. Games for Change has a new design challenge: to envision an interactive experience that encourages space exploration and at the same time capture comprehensive real-world data.
  4. If a more Earth-bound exploration is your thing, why not go exploring with this goat simulator?
  5. Or you can travel through time with a history lesson made entirely of smells.
  6. And find evidence of time travel in the script of Downton Abbey and other period shows.
  7. And whenever you explore somewhere new, it’s a good idea to learn a little bit about the culture. Find out what Japanese travelers have to say about life in America.
  8. Even just switching places (and clothes) with someone can give you a new perspective on things.
  9. A new school is opening in New York that explores the artistic nature of computation and teaches coding like creative writing.
  10. And there’s certainly some art to this font developed by a graphic design firm in France.
  11. After that, you probably need some animal cuteness to let you know that everything is going to be ok.
