Workshop: From “My Bad” to “All Good.” How to Repair a Mistake in Donor Communications

Description

Ever drop an email with a mistake in it? Misspell the name of your executive director? Give the wrong date for your gala? Variable fields fail to populate? Send an email to the wrong segment? You’re in good company.

As soon as the mistake is discovered, you’ll want to fix it fast. This interactive workshop will provide you with a framework for how to approach messaging when you’re in crisis mode. You’ll also get a handy checklist to make sure you’re covering all the bases of making things right again.

We will invite you to submit your mistakes both in advance and in real-time. We will highlight our process for determining when and how to communicate with constituents to resolve the mistakes, what the follow-up message should be. The workshop will include breakout opportunities for participants to problem-solve along with us.

Julie Sint

With over twenty years in the non-profit sector, Julie’s expertise is primarily in digital fundraising and engagement, and she has also worked in major gifts and mid-level fundraising, telemarketing, event planning and management, and development operations. In addition to work at Sanky, Julie has managed development programs at large and small nonprofits, and served on nonprofit boards. Julie holds an M.A. in Political Science, B.S. in Environmental Science, and B.A. in English, and has spoken at a variety of fundraising industry conferences. Outside of her work with nonprofits, Julie is a skilled yoga teacher and spends an inordinate amount of time in the kitchen.

Claire Thomas, Copy Director. Claire is a career fundraiser and copywriter with more than 30 years of experience. She’s been with Sanky since 2010. She writes in all channels on topics as varied as healthcare, domestic violence, conservation, animal welfare, extreme poverty, maternal and child health, prison reform, and homelessness. Prior to joining Sanky, Claire was VP for Development at Freedom from Hunger, an international NGO based in California. When she’s not working, she’s walking, practicing yoga binds, watching baseball, cooking, and listening to audiobooks.

Shefali has been a member of Sanky’s creative team since 2015. She’s worked on multi-channel campaigns for a broad range of clients whose missions range from social justice to wildlife conservation. She enjoys helping nonprofits craft powerful content and strengthen their messaging. Before Sanky — and before moving to the US for an MA in English — Shefali worked as a journalist in India. When she’s not writing copy, she’s hunting for good dessert, watching good-bad TV, or attempting to play the drums.
