Workshop: High Tech, High Touch – Volunteer Engagement in a Pandemic


Learn how to balance the latest technology with a personal touch to work smarter, not harder, in engaging your community and talent pool (paid or unpaid)- especially urgent in weathering a crisis, and evolving to meet new challenges.  No matter your budget, or comfort level with technology, by the end of this workshop you will have the strategic tools to strengthen your current relationships, dig deeper into new diverse communities to reach the right talent and with the right skills, and build advocacy for your mission. The session will review recent studies, surveys, and examples of the success and pitfalls of remote and virtual volunteer engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will review a variety of apps, programs, and innovative techniques from a neutral, field-tested perspective. This is a fun, dynamic and interactive experience from the heart of Silicon Valley.

Dana Litwin, CVA, is a strategic advisor, public speaker, and thought leader in volunteerism and civic service with a background in environmental conservation. Since 2002 she has guided organizations in California’s Silicon Valley and nationwide to produce breakthrough volunteer and community engagement programs. Dana is a popular presenter at the Points of Light National Conference on Volunteering and Service, the Nonprofit Learning Lab, NonProfit Problem Solver, Pause for Change, MAVA National Conference, RISE online conference, and hundreds of regional and local convenings, workshops, and webinars. She hosted the annual 2-day live online broadcast learning events, “Take the Leap: Embrace Change”, “Leading the Way: Not Managing the Day”, and “The Future is Now: Tech Trends for 2020 and Beyond”, produced by Better Impact, VMPC, and AL!VE. Dana served as the 2019 President of AL!VE (the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement – www.volunteeralive.org), and is a founder and facilitator of The National Alliance for Volunteer Engagement (www.all4engagement.org). She is the creator and host of the premiere web series  “Priceless Advice for Leaders of Volunteers”.
