Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of Moving Your Audience from Online to Offline
Have you ever tried to inspire someone to leave the comfort of their laptop or mobile device to engage with your organization out in the real world? How did it go? If you haven’t tried, why not? How do we leverage online tools to build meaningful, on-the-ground relationships with our volunteer leaders in a scalable way and with limited resources? And what are our goals?
Technology has opened the door for advocacy organizations to expand their reach and engage new communities faster and more broadly than ever before. The concept of “online to offline” is everywhere, but how is it helping us be more effective? Is technology allowing us to bring communities together around our issues, or is it a poor substitute for building meaningful personal relationships? How do we build online campaigns that have real-world offline impact?
Moving your audience offline, or expanding your audience to people who are engaged offline, can be a strategy to build a more powerful base, but it takes trial and error to figure out what works for your organization and your audience, and it takes buy-in from decision makers to get started. So how do we make the case that it’s worth the input, and how do we execute effective online to offline campaigns?
This session will be a panel and community discussion, led by advocacy organizations doing remote leadership development using online tools to recruit and manage volunteers. The goal of the session will be to workshop campaigns and learn from each other as we build powerful movements, and the intention will be to keep this conversation going after the conference.
