20NTC Session Proposal

The most annoying question ever asked: Is email dead?

Ask any fundraiser and you’ll hear the same panicked phrase:  “email just isn’t cutting it anymore”; “it’s like pulling teeth, raising the same money from our existing list.”  What was once a golden tool for reaching donors, now evokes anxiety for any development department. Whether it’s inbox overload or appeal fatigue, email feels like it just isn’t the powerhouse it used to be.

But smart marketers know – email can’t be tossed aside. Digital tools and channels are ever-evolving, so maybe it’s time we just evolved with them.

In this session, we’ll discuss how organizations are getting creative and innovative when it comes to making email work and in exploring how other efforts and channels can breathe new life into an email program. You’ll even hear from one organization on how they had their best fundraising day in a month, without asking for a single donation.

Learning Outcomes

  • You’ll learn how organizations leaned into experimentation and action to keep growing their email file, and improve their fundraising results.
  • Think about your program more holistically - moving away from schedules that “follow direct mail” and appeals with diminishing returns.
  • Insights on how investment in advertising and acquisition can invigorate your digital fundraising program - leading to a healthier program

Target Audience

digital communications experts, development staff, advocacy/legislative staff
