Supercharge Your Technology Training! Techniques for the “Accidental” Trainer

Submitted by: John Kenyon NTEN Member badge |

Description

Four notable nonprofit technology trainers—Jeanne Allen, Beth Kanter, John Kenyon, and Cindy Leonard—will share their best techniques for training design and delivery. Our session focuses on techniques for the “accidental” technology trainer and instructional designer, to make their trainings extraordinary. It’s a proven fact that technology projects go more smoothly when quality training is involved, so how do you design successful training programs if your resources and your background in instructional design are limited? Beyond tips for in-person training, you’ll get tips for online training, tech training for non-techies (including board members), and the way people learn the best—engaging interaction with the content. We’ll demonstrate some of our favorite training activities so that you can experience a variety of techniques first-hand and leave with tools to immediately start supercharging your training.

Session objectives:

  • Learn how to plan and execute activities that activate learning, improve retention and get results
  • Gain tips for using best practices in face-to-face and online training
  • Understand facilitation methods and practice techniques for guiding group discussions
