Just Keep Swimming: Surviving and Thriving as a One-Person Marcomms Shop

There’s never a dull moment when you’re a one-person marketing/communications department in a small nonprofit. It’s fun and interesting work, but it can be challenging to keep your head above water, meet your goals, and communicate to your coworkers why what you do is important.

From updating the website and managing social media, to creating compelling email copy and working with local media, we do it all. Our work is complex and often misunderstood, and we have to be flexible enough to change plans last-minute while still delivering results. Panelists will share some common challenges and solutions, with ample time for Q&A so that we can all commiserate and learn from one another.

Learning Outcomes

  • Share common challenges and frustrations with people who understand—and celebrate the successes
  • Learn tips and techniques for prioritizing tasks and managing workload
  • Get some strategies to better communicate to your coworkers and management what you do and why it’s important to their work
