“I’m Not the Dinosaur—YOU’RE the Dinosaur!” How Your Website Should Keep Pace with America’s Aging Population

Most people over the age of 65 use the internet every day, but did you know that the number of senior smartphone users has doubled in just the past five years? This rapid technology adoption is only going to increase as time goes on, so the real question is: can your organization can keep up with your grandma?

In this session, we’ll discuss some of the ins and outs of building technology and websites for seniors, covering a range of topics from accessibility requirements for federally-funded organizations, to improving the real usability of your website by testing it with older adults. You will hear about the successes and failures in creating useable technology for seniors, directly from nonprofits working in the aging space. Attendees will walk away with tools and next steps to help their website keep up with the needs of their senior users.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand how our aging population is using a variety of technology for everyday purposes
  • Learn the basics and best practices for implementing a technology solution that meets the needs of people 65+
  • Conduct user research to improve websites designed for seniors and also to foster organizational credibility
