Friendly Competitions: Creative Collegial Challenges with, Not Against, Nonprofit Friends

Submitted by: Molly Trerotola | Give Lively

In general, nonprofits are more robust when they collaborate, eschewing silos or attempts to fundraise alone. In the never-ending effort to rise above the noise and expand one’s donor base, nonprofits that join forces forge meaningful connections, benefit from each others’ strengths, leverage broader networks to reach wider audiences in support of an expanded roster of causes, and raise more money.

In this session we’ll explore some creative ways for nonprofits to cooperate on fundraising campaigns. Special attention is given to nonprofit challenges and friendly competitions that bring large communities together behind a number of causes and generate a philanthropic buzz. Using a case study from Power Launch’s Charity Warriors Challenge, an annual fundraising competition and accelerator for passionate nonprofit ambassadors in the Boston area, we’ll look at how peer-to-peer fundraising was creatively employed in a collegial way to the benefit of several local nonprofits through the spirit of competition.
