Many organizations have not begun to address the impact the next generation moving into leadership positions will have on the nonprofit sector. Succession planning is imperative to organizational sustainability. It involves not only about investing in training and mentoring of the individual, but also addressing the growth of operations, funding, and governance of the organization itself.
How do we create an environment that will adequately prepare individuals to lead? How do we support out-going leadership and honor their legacy without falling into the pitfalls associated with founder’s syndrome? What is the bigger picture?
