Amplifying Underrepresented Voices in Tech: How to Be an Ally
Thought-leaders in the tech industry have been calling out to the community to become “allies” to people with underrepresented voices, but what does this mean? Why are allies important, and what can you do to help support your colleagues, friends, and partners in a resource-constrained nonprofit environment?
We invite everyone, regardless of identity, to attend this session, and hear from a variety of voices, including allies, about their experiences.
Our panel will include nonprofit and tech professionals from a range of backgrounds, including folks who have started on their own ally journey. Hear about the lasting impact of a committed mentor; the conversations that changed an ally’s perspective; and what happens when an ally’s support enables us to exceed our professional goals. We will explore different techniques around being an ally to people with underrepresented voices, and ways to address the specific challenges we confront in the nonprofit space.
About the session designers: Marisa and Rachel are part of the leadership team for the Amplify Partners & Accomplices group, a community that works to involve allies in the effort to empower women/nonbinary/trans persons in the nonprofit and higher education Salesforce community to be fearless leaders in technology.
