Starting salary hiring range: $79,800-$90,900/year

This job-specific range is based on third-party industry benchmarked compensation structure. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget. 

Benefits: 25 days of paid time off and 11 paid holidays; flexible schedule with remote/hybrid work options; insurance including medical, dental, health reimbursement account for a single, two-person, or family plan with 1% for the Planet covering 100% of premiums; 403(b) retirement plan including up to 6% employer match; employer-funded short- and long-term disability, AD&D, and life insurance. Location: 1% for the Planet is headquartered in Burlington, Vermont. For this position, we welcome both remote and in-person applicants. Currently, we are only hiring US-based applicants. 

The job: 

The Senior Data Architect is the organization’s senior Salesforce administrator, accountable for data management across the organization. This role will lead the assessment, improvement and optimization of our Salesforce ecosystem to better serve a growing, global organization. Salesforce is 1% for the Planet’s database of record; it integrates with a secondary CRM (Hubspot), other third-party apps, as well as two custom applications. This role will lead the development of a data strategy, while also mapping our Salesforce ecosystem, making recommendations for optimizing the CRM(s) to suit our organization’s needs, and then operationalizing those changes. Technical project management skills, along with a background in data science or data management will be key. Additional CRM management responsibilities include developing quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) best practices for the organization, building complex automations in Salesforce Flow, and supporting the development of enhanced functionality for data submission and retrieval between Salesforce and a custom stakeholder portal application. 

Ultimately, this role is responsible for database solutions to ensure 1% for the Planet information is stored effectively and securely. A love of data organization, along with an ability to learn new skills and programs, will serve this role well. The ideal candidate has the ability to develop and implement solutions to technical challenges, and is interested in using their skills to further develop and implement robust data and technology strategies for 1% for the Planet. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Act as the senior Salesforce administrator for the organization, with a focus on
  • optimizing database infrastructure to improve staff user-experience and
  • effectively manage critical business data
  • Within the first year, conduct an extensive assessment of Salesforce
  • ecosystem, make recommendations, and implement structural improvements
  • using an agile approach
  • Lead the development of a robust data strategy for the organization
  • Manage automated backup platform for Salesforce, including restoring
  • production data as needed, and seeding sandboxes to replicate production
  • environments with anonymized data
  • Lead development and implementation of best practices for data quality
  • assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) within Salesforce and HubSpot CRMs
  • Responsible for Salesforce integration with other apps, including the
  • development of Salesforce Flow automations, as needed, to support effective
  • integration and improved staff experience
  • Work closely with Business Operations team and colleagues across the
  • organization to improve organizational understanding of what data we have
  • and how best to use it to inform strategy and work planning
  • Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts
  • Analyze structural requirements for new software and applications
  • Support assessment of Hubspot as a secondary CRM, and possible transition
  • planning
  • Sit on internal security team, and ensure alignment between identified
  • cybersecurity best practices and data architecture

Qualifications: 

  • Advanced Salesforce skills required, including an up-to-date Salesforce administrator certification, with preference towards candidates holding additional Salesforce architecture credentials including Data Architect, System Architect and/or Integration Architect
  • 3-5 years experience in complex CRM management, migration and/or restructuring
  • A systems thinker with technical acumen and extensive data management experience
  • In-depth understanding of database structure principles
  • Strong understanding of data science and ability to store data creatively and effectively, for access by different systems and stakeholders
  • Experience gathering and analyzing system requirements
  • Strong project management skills; ability to envision a process, build the digital infrastructure necessary and communicate the new process clearly via written and verbal instructions
  • Familiarity with any of the following platforms is a plus: Hubspot, Github, Firebase, and/or Amazon Web Services
  • Ability to leverage Salesforce and CRM expertise to support report development, metrics tracking, and complex automations using Salesforce Flow
  • Desire to support better systems integration for a growing global organization, and to contribute to technology optimization to support 1% for the Planet’s mission
