Summary:

The Website Specialist will serve as the primary person responsible for maintaining the websites of the Southern Poverty Law Center. The specialist will post materials, manage functionality and features, and report on website analytics. The Specialist will be part of a larger team who creates content and posts items to the SPLC websites including but not limited to SPLCenter.org, prisonreformla.com, betterjusticeflorida.com, and splconcampus.com. The specialist will work closely with departments managing the organization’s donation and email platforms.

 

Primary Job Functions:

Website content management (60%)

  • Post new and edited content to SPLC websites, ensuring all postings are thoroughly QAed and tracked as required
  • Follow internal workflow for ensuring content is reviewed by appropriate stakeholders, requested revisions are made, and content is launched in a timely manner
  • Assist the Digital Director and Drupal Architect with platform enhancements and fixes

Website optimization (20%)

  • Work closely with the Social Media team to ensure all content is optimized for social sharing and all campaign promotions are tracked
  • Work closely with Google AdWords Grant and Digital Marketing teams to ensure content is optimized for online ads

Website analytics (20%)

  • Manage Google Analytics and Tag Manager accounts and create reports on website analytics
  • Work closely with Google AdWords Grant and Digital Marketing teams to ensure content is optimized for online ads

 

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of HTML coding and CSS
  • Working knowledge of content management systems
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
  • Experience with Webflow content management or Square Space preferred
  • Experience with Drupal preferred

 

Education and Related Work Experience:

  • Coursework or equivalent experience in any of these disciplines: digital communications, computer science, online journalism
  • 1-2 years of relevant or professional experience working in web content management
  • Complete proficiency with website best practices, analytics tools, and platforms and social media
  • A keen understanding of how digital strategies are applied to public relations and engagement
  • Experience working for a nonprofit, political campaign or social action campaign a plus

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Demonstrable knowledge of web analytics tools
  • Strong copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Ability to multi-task in high-pressure situations
  • Highly proactive and innovative problem solver
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to independently manage priorities
  • Ability to adapt to rapid developments and shifting deadlines
  • Ability to work with staff across all organizational programs
  • Positive, energetic, personable, and respectful of others
  • Strong passion for social justice and fostering social change
  • Comfortable working with remote colleagues and using interoffice online communications tools
