Position: UX Design Lead
Reports to: Head of Delivery Services
Compensation: This is a full-time, exempt, grade 7 position
Location: Malvern, Pennsylvania
Date: July 2021

The UX Design Lead will drive all aspects of UX for Vanguard Charitable (VC), including but not limited to: directing the work of an Agile Design team, research, user testing, prototyping and designing for IT development teams, collaboratively and consultatively implementing best practices and creating design processes. This individual will need to shift quickly from hands-on creativity and design to a broader strategic approach to the UX function at VC. This individual will work closely with the Scrum development teams and will need to demonstrate personal Agility and a keen understanding of Agile work processes. Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to build trust and agreement with key partners and stakeholders across the business.

Duties and Responsibilities
1) Direct the often fast-paced work of a small, Agile UX Design team, including colleagues that are located outside of the United States
2) Collaborates with business Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Program Managers, Business Analysts and Subject Matter Experts to understand requirements from a design perspective and create user stories
3) In consideration of business priorities, and within VC branding guidelines set by the Marketing team, build prototypes, wireframes and hi- and lo-fidelity visual designs for IT development teams and business areas in a timely manner
4) Attend Scrum team ceremonies as appropriate to gather insight and input to designs
5) Drive a user and usability testing plan for Vanguard Charitable, incorporated within the established development processes
6) Collaborate with PO/SMEs and Business Analysts to incorporate web and mobile design and accessibility best practices in all designs
7) Creating and maintaining personas for prospects, current clients and internal staff
8) Use a variety of analysis techniques, as well as client feedback, to understand and optimize the client and prospect experience
9) Analyze existing systems and understand the new needs of the target audience
10) Keep up to speed with the technology industry to ensure our experience meets best practices and works across all platforms
11) Ensure compliance with Vanguard Charitable technology policies and procedures.
12) Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.


  • Five years of professional design experience, including interactive web design.
  • Demonstrated experience in an Agile development environment
  • Experience with Invision, Sketch, and Jira required. Experience Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign preferred
  • Advanced knowledge in all areas of user experience design (information architecture, interaction design, visual design, prototype engineering, content, user experience
  • Advanced knowledge in user-centered design principles, visual design, user behavior and interactions
  • Manage and produce high-quality work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to build and sustain strong business relationships; experience communicating with people who have different comfort levels with technology and design
  • Preferred experience collaborating with an offshore team
  • Portfolio or work samples required at the interview stage
