We are looking for an Individual Giving and Digital Fundraising Specialist to grow online revenue and support our annual giving, membership, and major gifts programs. This dynamic individual will implement our online solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship strategies. This includes coordinating and creating engaging email appeal campaigns, online forms, and surveys, peer to peer fundraisers, crowdfunding campaigns, automated email communication streams, multi-channel efforts, tax acknowledgment letters and emails, e-newsletters, and prospect management and research.

This position reports to the Director of Annual Giving and Membership and will join a collaborative team (Development Operations Manager and Director of Major Gifts) that is building the major donor pipeline by engaging members, Science News subscribers, science competition alumni, and more through our world-renowned programs.

This position calls for a candidate with experience in donor relations, digital fundraising, audience strategy, writing, project management, and – most importantly – a passion for science.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, at least 3 years of experience, and experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or other CRM databases, Luminate or similar email marketing platforms, and Microsoft Office. Experience with social media (Facebook) and WordPress is preferred.

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week). The ability to travel occasionally is necessary. Our office is located near the Dupont Circle and Farragut North Metro stations. This position will be work from home until August 31, 2020, with possible extensions.

Duties & Responsibilities:
 
SUPPORT FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

  • Help plan and implement online campaigns and appeals (using Luminate) with the Individual Giving Team and fundraising consultants to grow giving and engagement of our constituents.
  • Assist with direct mail and online production including draft copy, copy editing, design, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Coordinate fundraising production schedule, contribution source tracking, and other logistics.
  • Provide regular reports on fundraising engagement and activity.

STEWARD AND CULTIVATE DONORS

  • Coordinate in-house acknowledgment letters weekly.
  • Communicate and engage with members through email.
  • Create personal donor correspondence and reports.
  • Coordinate benefit fulfillment and donor recognition programs.

ASSIST WITH PROSPECT MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH

  • Perform data entry and analysis using Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.
  • Assist with identifying potential major gift or institutional giving prospects via online research and writing brief profile memos.
  • Assist with the management of major gift portfolios.
  • Assist with improving data integrity and providing general administrative support.

Essential Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with donor research and familiarity with prospect research tools (Research Point, iWave, Foundation Center) preferred.
  • Experience with CRM databases (Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge) preferred.
  • Experience with online marketing platforms (Luminate, MarketingCloud) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher.
  • High attention to detail and demonstrated a proactive and strategic approach to daily tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others as a team.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and; 3 years of related fundraising experience
