JOB SUMMARY
The Director, Data Governance and Architecture is a member of the Information Technology team. This position will be based in Schusterman’s Washington DC, New York NY, or Atlanta GA office. The Director will lead the development of data governance initiatives and play a key role in determining architectural changes to the organization’s information and data systems. The Director will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with other teams in the organization to determine business use cases, propose architectural solutions, and document organizational guidance and procedures to ensure consistency across diverse projects and data systems. This role is focused on identifying the implications of various projects on the organization’s data infrastructure and ensuring a holistic approach to data across systems. The role is also focused on defining and improving data related processes more generally within the Information Technology team and for the organization as a whole.

RESPONSIBILITIES

IT Strategic Planning (20%)
·         Develop vision and execution roadmap for organizational information governance, data architecture and data integration across all data and analytics systems.
·         Develop the vision and roadmap for the Data Warehouse strategy.
  

Data Architecture (35%)
·         Advise leadership and other organizational stakeholders on the value, benefits, and risks of making key architectural decisions.
·         Identify the requirements and timing of changes to systems integrations and products based on the needs of the organization and oversee their implementation.
·         Collaborate with key internal business and technology stakeholders to articulate, prioritize, and operationalize data requirements.

Data Governance (35%)
·         Establish policies, standards, best practices, and guidance documentation for analytics and data governance for products and processes throughout the organization.
·         Improve the quality, collection, and management of data through the implementation of policies and standards within the organization.
·         Develop Authoritative Source of Truth (ASOT) mapping and standards as needed for the organization.
·         Develop organizational content and training materials to ensure the appropriate and timely dissemination of best practices.
·         Develop and maintain inventory of enterprise information, including maps, referential documentation, and lineage.
·         Provided ongoing support and training to Information Technology and key organizational stakeholders as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are representative of the high level of demonstrated skills, maturity, judgment, and ability to work with a wide range of constituencies required of Schusterman employees:

  •          A Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience. Master’s degree in relevant field preferred.
  •          10+ years of practical experience in data architecture and governance.
  •          Credentialed as Data Governance & Stewardship Professional (DGSP) or other expertise preferred.
  •          Experience in documenting organizational business needs and architecting information system solutions
  •          Experience creating and implementing policies, standards, and best practice documentation, including reference and training materials (e.g., checklists).
  •          Experience implementing data integration systems.
  •          Experience with data governance regulatory requirements and standards, including emerging international trends, issues, and precedence.
  •          Excellent writing skills required: experience capturing, documenting & illustrating complex functional and technical requirements.
  •          Expertise in leading a project team through change management concepts and strategies, including communication, cultural adaptation, and setting/monitoring key performance metrics.
  •          Demonstrated working knowledge and interest in staying abreast of new developments at the intersection of data architecture, data policy, business intelligence, and data science practices.
  •          Experience in strategic planning and development.
  •          Deep understanding of various project management methodologies such as Waterfall and Agile development.
  •          Deep familiarity and comfort with using a range of Information Technology tools for collaboration, project management, documentation, and illustration.
  •          Experience in management of individuals who serve as project managers, business analysts or developers on a project team, using an inclusive leadership style.
  •          Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence matrixed project team members and provide coaching and guidance to successfully execute projects in an organization.
  •          Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to develop cooperative working relationships with supervisory personnel, stakeholders, and team co-workers.
  •          Demonstrated ability to distill complex issues and language for diverse audiences and platforms.
  •          High degree of knowledge and familiarity within philanthropy and/or nonprofit sectors preferred.
  •          Ability to travel domestically and internationally, upon occasion, as well as flexibility to accommodate multiple time zones.
