I am a community organizer, artist, and activist. I move through the world as a Black and South Asian (dougla) first-gen person with ancestry in Jamaica, West Indies. My organizing and community-building work have been instrumental in LGBTQIA+ movements and projects in NYC and Hawai'i. I am proud to have been able to collaborate on and initiate projects and events that highlight marginalized identities, such as the QTPOC Writing Circle, Black is a Poem, the First Annual BedStuy Pride, the first QTBIPOC Writing Group of Hawai'i, and Weaving Our Stories.
As a queer dougla existing in a world full of Dunder Mifflins and Michael Scotts, I find it imperative to practice self-care and healing to process microaggressions, the patriarchy, and white supremacy. I do this through writing poetry and walking extremely slowly (while occasionally deep sighing) through botanical gardens.
