11NTC Round-Up: Your Posts, Highlights, and Take-aways

Submitted by Amy on Tue, 03/29/2011 - 12:36pm

Last week, as I emerged from the post-conference haze of catching up on sleep and clearing my in-box, I started reading through blog posts from attendees and speakers. Then I couldn't stop! There are SO many posts to read that I figured I should round them all up in one place and share them. Hopefully, this means that all of the posts I haven't yet found will be added in the comments and we can all create a comprehensive list together.

NTC Storytellers: That Last Afternoon at NTC

[As part of the 2011 NTC, a group of attendees are documenting their experiences at the conference on the NTEN Blog. Roger led the team alongside Michaela Hackner.]

I'm already back at my home in Atlanta, having taken a flight away from Washington, DC and the Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC) under cover of very early morning darkness. It was odd leaving from a very empty conference hotel lobby, with no goodbyes from colleagues and friends — and it's a lot different from what I've experienced over the previous three NTCs that I've attended.

11NTC Science Fair Preview: Giveaways and Even More Giveaways!

Submitted by Amy on Wed, 03/16/2011 - 8:07am

The 2011 Nonprofit Technology Conference kicks off tomorrow and one of the key elements to Community Day is the Science Fair.

The Science Fair isn't like a typical conference exhibit hall. This opening reception provides an opportunity to network with nptech professionals while checking out nearly 100 exhibirors showing off their latest and greatest offerings to the nonprofit sector. Instead of running throughout the entire conference -- and competing with everything else on the agenda -- the Science Fair takes place only on the first day of the NTC, and it's the sole focus of the conference at that time.

It's also the setting for the conference's Opening Reception. As a result, the room is full from start to finish, so come prepared to talk to dozens of exhibitors and meet hundreds of conference attendees.

The Science Fair is also packed with giveaways! We want to be sure you have a game plan to make the most of your Science Fair time -- to get in all the conversations and demos you want AND to find all those giveaways.

For the last week, we've been counting down to our time together in DC -- or online! -- for the Nonprofit Technology Conference, sharing tips each day to help you maximize your impact and your fun.

The fabulous Rob Cottingham, the NTC Official Cartoon Blogger, is helping us prep with some great cartoons. You'll see them on our blog throughout the conference and at http://socialsignal.com/ntc2011.

Today we're sharing the tips you need to stay connected while at the NTC!

2009 NTC Preview: James Weinberg on NPTech Careers

Submitted by Holly on Wed, 04/08/2009 - 4:08pm

Judging by how many of you opened and read our February newsletter on IT staffing, all things related to jobs -- from hiring to seeking to firing -- are top of mind for you all right now. We were incredibly lucky to have James Weinberg author a chapter in our book Managing Technology to Meet Your Mission with his colleague Cassie Scarano (who wrote an article in that newsletter).

James and Cassie are bringing their long-time experience in the nptech hiring world to the NTC for two sessions. First, they're going to tackle the topic from the perspective of those fortunate enough to be hiring staff right now in "Finding, Keeping, and Developing the Best People". Then, for those who might be looking to reboot careers, they'll present "Advancing Your Career and Earning What You're Worth".

James and I got the chance to chat awhile back about both those sessions:

Register for the 2009 NTC!

Okay, technically there are 2 days left, but we don't want you on your computer on Saturday (unless you want to be). But we really want you at this year's Nonprofit Technology Conference. You can still join us in San Francisco, April 26-28, for the greatest nonprofit tech show on Earth at the lowest price we offer -- but only if your register by January 31st.

Countdown to the NTC

Submitted by Brett on Tue, 02/26/2008 - 12:13pm

We're only 3 weeks away from the 2008 Nonprofit Technology Conference -- and the price of registration increases by $100 on March 1st -- so if you've been waiting for a good moment to make your plans to join us in New Orleans, March 19-21, this just might be it.

> Register for the 2008 NTC

We're also counting on you to help us spread the word. We know the single biggest reason people attend the NTC is because of the recommendation of a colleague or friend. If you could take a moment to talk up the NTC to anybody you know who would benefit, you'll be doing your part to make this year's conference the best one yet.

Just send them to http://nten.org/ntc for the most up-to-date information. Thanks in advance for telling people about the biggest, most fun nonprofit technology event of the year. It's the ultimate compliment, and we appreciate it!

And, of course, we hope you're going to join us, as well.

TXT the NTC!

Submitted by Holly on Thu, 02/21/2008 - 11:11am

Each year for the last couple of of years, we've used the NTC as a showcase for new technologies we think you should be thinking about. This year, we're going mobile, in support of the local New Orleans nonprofit community.

Here's how it works:

Subscribe to the NTC campaign by texting TXTNTC to 69866 or completing the form in the full blog post.

You will receive messages only during the conference. We'll feature a different New Orleans nonprofit on each day of the conference. They will send you a few messages each day, with some unique opportunities and special surprises:

NTEN Members Online Round-UP: NTC Buzz, Awards, Announcements, and Advice

Submitted by Annaliese on Mon, 01/28/2008 - 10:54am

NTEN members are buzzing about the upcoming Nonprofit Technology Conference, and my favorite contributions include Deborah Finn's NTC wish list. Another list about the NTC comes from an unidentified NTEN member -- a list of favorite things about the NTC plus questions and reservations about the conference. I also have to give a shout-out to the LOLnptech blog for its comedic relief.

Everyone is invited to share their wish lists, reservations, and other conference buzz in the NTC08 Affinity Group.

In non-NTC news, NTEN member Social Solutions has been given a Future 50 award by Baltimore SmartCEO magazine. Social Solutions provides data tracking and reporting software and services to human services organizations (and provides a discount to NTEN members).

A couple of NTEN members were featured as important social media resources in an article from Global Voices. Beth Kanter and her contribution to Read Write Web, along with her own blog, are highlighted, along with TechSoup's definition of web 2.0 in the nonprofit context.

Social Signal, another organizational member of NTEN, is tackling the question of the ROI of social networking by kicking off a series of posts about how organizations can actually earn revenue with Web 2.0. I'm sure many organizations will be tuning in to this series. Be sure to note Alexandra Samuel's points for consideration, including public perception and tax regulations for nonprofits that generate revenue in this manner.

Finally, continuing her series of posts about open source tools for nonprofits, long-time NTEN member and new Board member Michelle Murrain discusses WordPress as an open source blogging tool: how it can be used and optimized for an organization's needs, and how its applications go beyond just blogging.

NTC 2008 Registration Now Open!

Submitted by Brett on Mon, 12/03/2007 - 3:51pm

Plan on joining us in New Orleans, March 19-21, because registration for the 2008 Nonprofit Technology Conference is officially open.

You know the NTC: More than 1,000 people will come together at the Sheraton New Orleans to connect with colleagues, learn about the issues, share their knowledge with others, and, of course, have fun. But there are a few things you may not know yet:

  • This year's theme is "Building Community: Connections around the globe and around the corner"
  • David Pogue, the personal technology columnist for the New York Times, will be the plenary speaker. Will he favor us with a song?
  • The After Party will be held on Thursday, March 20th, at New Orleans' legendary Tipitina's. You can sign up to get down when you register for the NTC.
  • NTEN members save $200 on their NTC registrations, substantially more than the cost of becoming a member. If you're planning on attending our conference, it just makes good economic sense to join NTEN today.

Learn more from our recenty updated NTC pages. See you in New Orleans!
