Building and Supporting Your Drupal Website: In-House, Outsourced, or Both?

Submitted on Wed, 1/4/2012 - 12:44pm
Deciding how you will build your site, how you'll maintain it, and how you'll host it, are three separate, but related, decisions. Will you do everything in-house, everything outsourced, or a little of each?

CoP: When it's OK to Say No

We're all here to serve our clients but sometimes, in our quest to make them happy, we go along to get along. In this roundtable discussion, we'll share experiences from the trenches when we've faced that uncomfortable conversation. Better yet, bring a best practice approach to determining when it's ok (and the best choice) to say "No" to a Drupal website customer and actually doing it. Learn more »

CoP: Drupal 7, When to make the "switch" (and what to watch out for)

Still on the fence about moving to Drupal 7? Several members of our group (including Johanna Bates and Nathan Gasser) will share their trials and tribulations with the switch. They'll provide an overview of their project, where they ran into things that weren't the same as Drupal 6 and how they worked around them. The presentations will be fairly quick and then we'll jump into q&a. Learn more »

How the NYPL Successfully Project Managed a New Drupal Website

Have you ever rolled out a CMS that only a few staff members knew how to use, effectively eliminating the benefits of having a content management system? Have you struggled with the approval process, trying to balance the need for timely updates vs. someone being responsible to review new content before publication? WordPress vs Drupal... Fight!

Submitted on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 4:38pm
WordPress and Drupal are both such amazing, solid platforms, with rich, deep ecosystems of plug-in/module developers, implementors, designers, etc., it’s hard to go wrong picking either platform – as long as you're clear on the feature set you need.

CoP: (Easily) Creating Reusable Drupal Features

You'll learn how to install the Features module, create your first feature, and install it into a new website. We'll also cover the structure of the feature created so that intermediate developers can add functions to the feature's module. Finally, we'll briefly demonstrate how to use Drush to update the module with new configuration. Learn more »

Connecting with NTEN Communities of Practice

Submitted by Sarah on Thu, 09/22/2011 - 11:00am

We're closing in on our final transition to Communities of Practice here at NTEN and are so excited to be able to offer more free learning and networking opportunities for NTEN members and the NPTech community at large.

We have three new groups that recently transitioned and all are holding their first calls (also free for everyone) in the upcoming weeks. Check out the following CoP's and their upcoming events:

CoP: Drupal RoundTable

Join the Drupal Community of Practice for an open call.  A great way to meet other Drupal users and share success stories, brainstorm best practices and vent about challenges.  This will be the first call for this CoP and we'll discuss future topics, as well as what members want to learn. There will also be a period for Drupal Q & A at the end of the call.  Learn more »
