Thanks Guys! NTEN Staff Retreat

Submitted by Holly on Mon, 08/03/2009 - 9:50am

You crazy kids were kind enough to put together a very healthy spa fund for the NTEN staff after an amazing 09NTC. We talked it over for quite some time, and in the end, decided that we just couldn't subject Brett and Karl to pedicures. So we applied the funds to a nifty pad in vacation mecca Bend, OR instead. Although the temps were over 100 and the house didn't have air-conditioning, we had a blast. Here's the footage:

09NTC Session Materials - Now Online!

Submitted by Sarah on Tue, 05/19/2009 - 12:53pm

For those of you who missed the 09NTC -- or those who want to relive the excitement -- we've pulled together session materials for 121 of the 148 sessions. From live recordings and session slides to wikis and blog posts, you can view the materials here.

Among my favorites is Rob Cottingham's mixed media session notes. You can also find notes from Clay Shirky’s plenary on Rob's blog.

Judy Hallman did a great wrap up of everything CiviCRM related on her blog.

The Google Analytics YouTube Chanel is full of useful information, as is an extremely comprehensive resource list that came out of "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (The Obama Stimulus Package) and Nonprofits" affinity group meeting -- thanks to Sheldon Mains.

As someone who's always looking for a bargain, I suggest you check out Amazon Payments' post-NTC special offers.

For even more fantastic 09NTC materials, makes sure to read Annaliese's Community Tagging Wrap-up.

2009 NTC: Community Tagging Wrap-Up

Flickr: Chad_NormanFlickr: Chad_NormanThe 2009 Nonprofit Technology Conference was a blast, but it sure felt like a whirlwind of information and people. We're lucky that so many attendees took photos, blogged, and tweeted to capture and share their conference experiences.

Folks used "09ntc" as the primary tag when publishing information and media about the conference online. Here are a few of those contributions you might want to check out -- because it's all about the story-telling, individual perspectives, and applications that make the 3-day conference come alive and continue:

Bite Size Reflections on NTC Programs

Submitted by Anna on Tue, 05/05/2009 - 12:09pm

Flickr Photo by edtemelesFlickr Photo by edtemelesAs Holly notes, it would be silly to try to sum up the NTC in one blog post, so I'll give you something digestable. As the Program Coordinator at NTEN -- the one trying to wrestle everyone and everything together to bring you the NTC -- it's fitting that I evaluate the program side.

2009 NTC: Awards Show Wrap Up

Submitted by Holly on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 10:23am

Although I hate the idea of talking over lunch, I'm glad that two years ago, under former ED Katrin Verclas, we added the awards ceremony to our closing lunch at the NTC. It's a great way to spend our last bit of time together while highlighting some of the individuals and organizations shaping our sector.

Of course, we wish we could recognize ALL the deserving folks out there, but here are the highlights from this year:

2009 NTC: Q&A Edition

Submitted by Holly on Thu, 04/30/2009 - 8:45am

(Ed. Note: We thought about writing a grand blog post to try and summarize the 09NTC experience, but quickly realized that was silly. Instead, we're going to bring you bite-size reflections on the NTC one post at a time over the next few weeks.)

Photo: Judith Sol-DyessPhoto: Judith Sol-DyessIt seems that no matter how hard we try to say something, sometimes we just can't quite get our message across. It also seems that sometimes we forget to point out a few things at all, in which case: our bad! This post is dedicated to a few of the questions and concerns I heard coming out of the 09NTC. Warning: it's a very random assortment!

Apparently, You SHOULD Hate Your Website

Submitted by Brett on Tue, 04/28/2009 - 7:53am

ForeSee Results released a report at the yesterday on "Trends in Constituent Satisfaction with Nonprofit Websites: Building Membership, Donations, and Loyalty through the Web Channel". If you haven’t been keeping track, that’s the third report released at the 2009 NTC -- with by far the longest title.

We’ve all secretly suspected that our websites have issues, and now there’s data to back us up. The report finds that “nonprofit websites score 73 on the study’s 100-point scale, below many other online industries, including Online Banking (83), E-Retail (74), E-Government (74) and Automotive Websites (78).” That’s right: we’re even behind government websites.

But we’re glass half full of beer folks here. The good news is that not only is there room for improvement, but improvement actually yields measurable benefits. Visitors who are highly satisfied with your website are more likely to donate, volunteer, and recommend your organization.
