2011 NTEN LIfetime Achievement Award: Judy Hallman

Submitted by Annaliese on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 12:05pm

Each year, NTEN recognizes a member of this community who has furthered the work of the nonprofit technology field through dedication, innovation, and leadership.  This year, we are thrilled to honor Judy Hallman for her work with this award.

The award was presented to Judy at the 2011 Nonprofit Technology Conference by her friend and colleague Paula Jones, Director of Technology and Administration for the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits, whose words I'd like to share here:

We Can't Make Summer Last Forever, But We Can Make Membership Last Longer

Submitted by Annaliese on Wed, 07/01/2009 - 9:59am

It's summertime, for real now: I've been having breakfast with Wimbledon, the mosquitoes are biting, and I can't walk down the street in the evening without smelling someone cooking out on a grill.

Here at NTEN, another tell-tale sign of summer is our Summer Membership Offer: Become a member of NTEN (or renew your membership) this summer, and get member benefits from now until the end of 2010!

> Learn more and join us

That means all the connecting, learning, and saving that comes with membership lasts an extra 6 months.

If you're new to NTEN or have been meaning to return as a member, check out the benefits of membership and then take advantage of this limited time opportunity.

Thanks for being part of this community!

NTEN Member Buzz Round-Up: Week of June 19th

Submitted by Annaliese on Fri, 06/19/2009 - 11:51am

Here are some of the news items and activities involving NTEN members I came across online this week:

The Chronicle of Philanthropy is hosting an encore online discussion panel next Tuesday, the 23rd, with superstars Nancy Schwartz, Danielle Brigida, and Wendy Harman, on the topic of nonprofit groups using online social networks -- and how these channels complement traditional marketing.

Feeding America has launched a Causes campaign, sponsored by Kellogg's. It's not your typical Cause campaign, though: Kellogg's will make a matching donation of 15% of ALL donations made to Facebook Causes between midnight June 18th and midnight June 19th to Feeding America. You can give all your friends birthday donations, plus a dollar here and there to your other favorite causes using the Facebook app, and you'll be simultaneously helping to raise money for Feeding America. Pretty cool, eh? (Oh, and Causes is an NTEN member, too!)

Blackbaud is among the "Ten Best Web Support Sites" awarded by the Association of Support Professionals this week. We're especially proud to hear what they said about Blackbaud as a small company: "The big news this year is the number of smaller companies that have developed world-class support sites." Way to be world-class, Blackbaud!

Wiley is donating books to Mashable's #Stories4Good contest, a social media for social good initiative. You're invited to submit your stories about how social media was used for good causes. Be sure to read the directions for how to submit -- there are multiple social media steps!

Our friends across the pond at LASA had their 2009 Ciruit Riders Conference last week. You can see their Flickr photostream or available sessions slides via SlideShare. I saw this photo from NTEN member Marc Osten, and thought I'd include it as an "image of the week" for us:

NTEN Member Buzz Round-Up: Last Week in February

LOLnptechLOLnptechCheck out this interesting read about the early days and evolution of nptechies working with the web, and you'll probably see some names your recognize, including current and past NTEN members like Ami Dar of Action Without Borders/Idealist.org.

Britt Bravo lays out -- in steps and concepts we can all grasp -- how blogging can fit into your organization's overall communications plan.

NTEN member organization MPower rebrands itself as Orange Leap (and NTEN's Holly Ross appreciates it).

In related news, Michelle Murrain reviews the new open source products from newly re-branded NTEN member organization Orange Leap.

Beth Kanter is at it again, sharing great information about ROI of social media in the nonprofit sector. This time, she includes some summary and analysis of the recent Ask-Expert session with Wendy Harman, who happens to be Chief Listener over at American Red Cross. (OK, I made up the job title, but if you attended the session or at least read Beth's post, I think you'll agree it's appropriate.)

And, speaking of great job titles, the discussion topic over in the NTEN members-only group on LinkedIn is "Your Dream Job Title". If you haven't added your $.02, please do so by Monday, because I'll be summing up your responses in the March NTEN Member Update email!

Flickr Commons Project: Smithsonian InstitutionFlickr Commons Project: Smithsonian InstitutionI've been neglecting my Member News roundups, but it's not because I don't care -- it's a combination of you guys all being super active and NTEN being consumed by NTC prep. It's been info overload around here, but that's a good thing!

So, it's due time to give shout-outs where shout-outs are due:

Flickr Credit: I Are RowellFlickr Credit: I Are Rowell You probably think about fundraising year-round, but let's face it: there's something about this time of year that revs up the intensity around organizational fundraising and impact.

Whether you're looking at your annual budget compared to the actuals, planning for the programs you'd like to add next year, tracking your success, or putting together a report of how donations helped your impact, you're probably crunching numbers and planning campaigns right now.

This month's Show & Tell session might give you some ideas and options for making the campaigns, donor management, and analysis of impact a little easier -- and your work more effective.

Show & Tell: A New Webinar Series from NTEN (And It's Free!)

Submitted by Annaliese on Mon, 05/05/2008 - 6:30am

Flickr photo: scotsman001Flickr photo: scotsman001 So, you work at a nonprofit organization and you've been hearing about ways you can reach your constituents, organize your work place, and raise money for your cause with the help of technology. Maybe you've even started learning about some specific strategies, tools, and trends -- with the help of NTEN, of course.

But let's face it: there's a lot that has to happen between learning about cool tools or trends and investing in new products or services for your organization. No matter how cool a new technology may be, you can only stretch your organization's budget so far.

NTEN wants to help -- and so do our discount partners!

Starting next week, NTEN is presenting a new series of webinars called "Show & Tell" that will give you a personal tour of the products and services that are within your reach, thanks to the discounts provided to NTEN members.

> Free! Learn more and sign up today.

You'll get up close and personal with our discount partners to learn more about their specific tools and services, ask questions about the products, and take advantage of special savings.

In this first installment, you'll learn about:

  • Web and audio conferencing services
  • Web 2.0 platforms
  • E-communications tools
  • Data storage and recovery services
  • Website development services

All are welcome! NTEN members and anyone else interested in learning more about these tools and discount opportunities are invited to join us for the free Show & Tell sessions.
