11NTC Community Day

The first day of the NTC is all about community: the NTEN community, the local DC community, and creating a community of peers that will last you well beyond our signature three-day event.

Day of Service

The Day of Service is your chance to give back to the NTC's host community, Washington, DC. On Thursday, March 17, this year's Day of Service will let you participate in your choice of 3 different projects: Tech Recycling Day, a wireless network installation, and meal preparation at DC Central Kitchen. Sign up when you register; details will be emailed to you as they become available.

Lobby Day

Politically-minded NTC attendees will head to the capital to lobby to protect Internet Freedom and Net Neutrality. Free Press will provide a special training over breakfast the morning of the Thursday, March 17th, prior to heading to the Hill to give you talking points on Net Neutrality as well as the do's & don't's of lobbying. You will be responsible for setting up meetings with your state senators; information on how to do so will be provided. Sign up to let Congress know that the nonprofit technology community believes in a free and open Internet!

Affinity Group Meetings

The Affinity Group meetings on the first day of the NTC will let you network and connect with conference attendees who share similar interests. Make sure you take our Affinity Group Survey to submit a topic, offer to facilitate a group, or just let us know what type of meetings you would like to attend.

Member Reception

Join your NTEN member colleagues at a special lunch reception sure start your 2011 NTC experience off right. We'll have tasty food and good company to celebrate you, our NTEN members -- and hand out some very special awards. (Remember, NTEN Members save $200 off the cost of registration, so be sure to join NTEN when you register for the conference.)

Hands-On Trainings

We Are Media Sessions
If you're new to social media, look no further. We'll hold hands-on, introductory social media sessions based on the We Are Media Project on March 17th, the first day of the 2011 NTC. Topics will include Listening, Blogging, Video, and Podcasting. These focused, guided workshops cost $20 for one session. Sign up when you register for the NTC; we'll email you to register for specific sessions. Space is limited to 160 participants.

Science Fair

The Science Fair isn't your typical conference exhibit hall. Instead of running throughout the entire conference - competing against everything else on the agenda - the Science Fair takes place only on the first day of the NTC. It's the sole focus of the conference at that time, the setting for the conference's Opening Reception. As a result, the room is full from start to finish. Come prepared to talk to dozens of exhibitors and meet hundreds of conference attendees.

Ignite Sessions

It's been called "injecting the NTC into your veins." It's been called "networking on steroids." It's the purest dose you can get of the passions of NTC attendees. Ignite talks give you the opportunity to share your fascinations with the NTC community -- with a catch. You are strictly limited to five minutes and twenty presentation slides, which automatically advance every 15 seconds. Because ignite talks are scheduled for the first night of the conference, everyone who sees your talk will have a chance to catch you in the halls and ask you more about your presentation.

We will start accepting applications for Ignite speakers soon. If you've got a passion you can't wait to share, stay posted for more information.
