Meet NTEN: Your Nonprofit Technology Community

NTEN is a network of nonprofit and technology professionals who work for social change and believe that technology can help them achieve it.

Our members come from all over the world, but most live in the United States. We have active local communities in most big cities on the East and West coasts and in many of the major cities in the Midwest, as well as online.

Our Work

More than half of our community works in a nonprofit organization. These organizations vary in size from a single employee to well over a hundred and have missions ranging from feeding the hungry to rebuilding neighborhoods after natural disasters. Many of our members work in the same field, the most popular being education, human services, the environment, public health, and youth services.

NTEN is also made up of professionals who work for associations and technology companies, as well as other types of organizations.

Our Knowledge

Everyone in the NTEN community is involved with technology in some way. But that doesn’t mean we all have the same skills. About a quarter of our members are IT staff, but many others also call themselves "accidental techies," meaning they have no formal technology training but use a lot of technology in their day-to-day work. Other NTEN members are experts in specific areas – like using social networks or tags, writing for websites, and building usable websites.

We all come together to share ideas, knowledge, tools, and resources. We also have a lot of fun experimenting with the latest technology and imagining ways that it can help the causes important to us.
