Although potentially scary for any user, new tech projects can be effectively tested and implemented with the help of early adopters. Step aboard and learn how to use the knowledge you gain from these early adopters to overcome the resistance that end-users may have to a tech project. This session will use real professional examples from multiple projects to explore methods to promote small successes along the way, while delving into the possible derailments that can occur without proper leadership. Handling the management of change from the beginning will keep users from waving goodbye to the caboose!

About the Presenter

Michelle Hines, Technology Director, UCP/CLASS

Michelle Hines, Technology Director at UCP/CLASS (formerly known as UCP of Pittsburgh) began her career at UCP/CLASS as an graduate student intern from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Social Work. After graduating with her M.S.W in 2001, she continued to work on a variety of development and technology tasks at UCP/CLASS. During those first several years Michelle was the accidental techie while UCP/CLASS established their first network. Formally advancing to her current position, she is in charge of developing annual tech plans, supporting five physical offices, managing over 25 servers, administering a Cisco VOIP system, coordinating database development, and interfaces with all other departments at UCP/CLASS. In the past year, Michelle has overseen the completion of Phase One of a centralized database for UCP/CLASS, implementation of agency-wide Citrix solution, and the physical relocation of 100 staff members to new facilities. Outside of UCP/CLASS, Michelle is a former board member of Interplay Child Care Center and involved with the Pittsburgh Chapter of Young Nonprofit Professionals Network, and the Pittsburgh Tech Council.
