Integrating Social Media into Emergency Management Programs: Catching Up with Society
Event Details
Mobile devices and technologies are changing the ways people consume and share information. Social media provide multiple platforms for sharing experiences and data during disasters. Put these together and it’s a brand new world for emergency managers.
This presentation looks at current trends in the use of social media (SM) in crises and the “age of social convergence”. It will examine the steps that lead to the integration of SM in your emergency management and business continuity programs.
Finally, the presentation features case studies of the use of SM in large-scale emergencies, from Haiti to Japan, and key lessons learned.
In this webinar, participants will learn
- Social media are already proven emergency information tools.
- Social media and cloud-based, volunteer-driven crisis mapping offer a built-in resiliency in disasters
- We’re in the “age of social convergence” where citizens expect not only to be informed, but also to participate in emergency management
