About the Presenters
Ryan Ozimek, Founder and CEO, PICnet
Ryan Ozimek is the founder and CEO of PICnet and for six years has managed the Washington, DC company's growth since its inception. Ryan leads PICnet in providing open source Web solutions to non-profits, socially responsible businesses, and government agencies, with a strong focus on the Joomla content management system. Bringing together his passion for business and policy, along with his hands-on technology world experience, Ryan focuses on moving beyond the nuts and bolts of technology and rising to finding new ways to empower organizations to better meet their missions. As a leading supporter of open source software, Ryan led PICnet to be the first business to provide open source servers and Web services to the US House of Representatives. In 2006, PICnet ushered in Non-Profit Soapbox, the first on-demand open source CMS solution specifically for the non-profit community, based on the Joomla framework. Long fascinated with the crossing of technology media and policy, Ryan holds a Masters in Public Policy from UCLA, and a B.A. in communications from UCLA.
Tim Forbes, Director of Client Services, PICnet
Tim works with clients to identify their needs and construct elegant web solutions to meet those needs, oversees the development of our products, and supervises the Support Department to ensure that those solutions continue to perform well for them once their sites are launched. These duties are informed and inspired by more than a decade of work at non-profits in the U.S. and overseas where his experience has included project management, strategic planning, marketing, and fundraising as well as website development. Tim can describe the taste of kumys for you, a mildly alcoholic drink made from fermented mare's milk, having sampled it during his time as an NGO Development Peace Corps Volunteer in the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan. A Seattle native, he often daydreams of Mt. Rainier, the Puget Sound, and the smell of freshly-roasted coffee. He is fantasizing about the 2010 World Cup in Brazil and growing a photography obsession. Tim has a B.A. in Communication and Masters in Public Administration with an emphasis on NGO Management from the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington.
