There's no doubt that it is tricky to turn Facebook friends or Twitter followers into donors but it is possible! The Humane Society of United States has some good tips and practical steps to share from their experience.

Geoff Handy is Vice President of Media and Online Communications for The Humane Society of the United States, where he oversees online advocacy, fundraising, and marketing for the nation’s largest animal protection organization. Since 2004, when he took the helm of online communications, the program has contributed to dozens of major victories for animals and brought in more than $45 million online. Geoff was recognized by Fundraising Successmagazine as one of its 2006 “Top Fundraisers Under 40.” He holds a master’s in public administration from the George Washington University.
Carie Lewis, Director of Emerging Media at The Humane Society of the United States, leads social media and online advertising campaigns for the nation’s largest and most powerful animal protection organization. She has a strong passion for using social networks, particularly Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare, for the purpose of relationship and community building.
As media is constantly changing, a large part of Carie’s responsibilities include evaluating new technologies and trends, as well as brand monitoring and search engine optimization.
Carie is a member of the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) and the American Marketing Association (AMA), and has been interviewed for articles in The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Fundraising Success Magazine, and The Nonprofit Times.
