Microsoft created the Local Impact Map for its own storytelling work and has since made it available, free of cost, to enable organizations to communicate their impact to various audiences. About the Presenters
James Rooney, Microsoft
James Rooney is the program manager for Microsoft’s Technology for Good program. As part of that he owns the company’s relationships with strategic NGO partners, participates on the Microsoft Disaster Response team, and develops technology solutions that benefit NGOs and their constituents. A 12-year veteran at Microsoft, he worked in the Microsoft Developers Network and Office International (in both Redmond, WA and Dublin, Ireland) teams prior to joining the Citizenship and Public Affairs team. James has a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Washington and has a long history of nonprofit involvement serving on several nonprofit boards, volunteering at various events and work parties, and founding a Seattle-based urban agriculture organization.
Julie Erkenswick Ross, AidMatrix
Julie Erkenswick Ross is Marketing Director for The Aidmatrix Foundation, a nonprofit which provides supply-chain software solutions to other nonprofits and emergency agencies to move humanitarian relief when and where it is needed most. She and her team were part of the pilot for the Local Impact Map and use it in times of Disaster Relief in order to better communicate the needs from the ground to the broader public in the hopes of matching donation offers of goods and services.
Bea Dominguez, TechSoup Online Community Curator
Bea is a Jane of all trades who loves building community and connecting with people through art and technology. A citizen of the world, she grew up between El Salvador and Guatemala and spent a year in the South of France. She has a B.A. in Art History from San Francisco State University and has worked in education, community engagement, development, marketing, event management, and administration for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Most recently, she left Intersection for the Arts, a multidisciplinary arts non-profit, to experience the exciting world of tech start-ups in Silicon Valley. There, she managed operations and recruiting for Zanbato, a small start-up that is promoting global development by connecting buyers and sellers of infrastructure online. Currently, Bea is the Online Community Curator at TechSoup, a non-profit that connects other nonprofits and libraries with the technology resources and information they need to further their mission. She manages their Local Impact Map, a storytelling project involving a collection of stories from nonprofits around the world using technology for good. An active volunteer, Bea is also the Media and Communications Director at Emerging Arts Professionals, a network focused on professional development for arts and culture workers in the Bay Area, and a virtual host at the HUB Bay Area, connecting a global community of social entrepreneurs inside their online platform: HUBNet. When she is not working or volunteering, you can find Bea at an arts event, having dinner with friends, reading fiction or planning her next travel adventure.
