NTEN Member Buzz Round-Up: July 2 2010

(Note: This is a weekly round-up of NTEN members doing and sharing their nptech awesome. Members are in bold. Tag your own news with "nten member" or "nptech" to help us find your awesome online, or contact Annaliese with your updates.)

Who's your Mayor? Farra Trompeter wrote up an amazing article about Foursquare+Nonprofits (and other location-based social network tools). Farra, along with Thomas Negron and Charles Lenchner, invited Foursquare founder Naveen Selvadurai and Brooklyn Museum's Shelley Bernstein to their June 501 Tech Club. Read the article for Farra's takeaways and tips for nonprofits. You can see the aggregated Tweets from the NYC 501 Tech Club here.

Tal Frankfurt has a nice round-up on his blog about #nptech articles he thinks are worth reading. It's a helpful compilation about online tools for nonprofits, and we're happy to see NTEN members Debra Askanase, Idealware, and Convio included in the list.

Beth Kanter actually attended an event -- and learned something! (She's usually doing the teaching ;). Read her summary and takeaways. Props to NTEN member Wendy Harman of the American Red Cross, who Beth refers to in providing some key points she took away from Wendy's Keynote.

For more summary of the Nonprofit2.0 Unconference where Beth did some learning at, see the summary Allyson Kapin provides over on the Care2 Frogloop blog.

For some Zen time, read Michelle Murrain's reflections on coding -- why coding today is so different than when she started.

I liked this little tidbit on Twitter: Shana Masterson, at the National Brain Tumor Society, is looking at examples of nonprofit websites, and gave a nice shout-out to The American Cancer Society. Let us know what else you find, Shana!

Heads up: The 2010 Nonprofit Tagline Awards is on! Organized by Nancy Schwartz and Getting Attention, there are more categories to submit in this year, including special event taglines, campaign taglines, and any program taglines within your nonprofit. Deadline is July 28th!

Huge props to Andrea Zak for organizing the DC 501 Tech Club happy hour this week. We're looking forward to many more events in DC in the fall, and leading up to the 2011 NTC!
