Session: Making it Real: Getting Project Management Right for Content Management Web Projects
1. What's the most important trend in nonprofit technology for 2010?
I think the current economic situation has led to a lot of belt tightening, which has had some not so great repercussions in the nonprofit sector, but has also caused a greater attention to results, metrics and accountability. I think this trend will increase the development and sharing of best practices among nonprofits in 2010 -- at least I hope so.
2. Why do you think your session topic is important for nonprofits to address?
Too many people fear their website redesign or implementation projects, especially in the relatively unknown realm of Open Source CMS systems. They think that because they don’t know the jargon or aren’t a technologist that it's all voodoo and going to be painful and complicated. By getting some tips and structure on the process they can save time, get better results, and have more fun with the process, ending up with a really valuable tool to communicate with their supporters.
3. What's the one thing you want attendees to remember from your session?
I think we’ll be successful if people remember that most of project management comes down to common sense and good communication, no matter what the technology involved might be, so anyone can have a smooth website implementation and a great outcome with just a bit of care, attention to detail and good will.
4. Which Muppet do you most identify with and why?
I’m torn between Janice and the Count because I can identify with both her peace and love vibe and his hapless wonkiness.
