Ed. Note: As we prepare for the 2010 Nonprofit Technology Conference, we wanted share a wee bit of the wisdom our speakers will be serving up, so as not to overwhelm you when you get to Atlanta. We're asking them all to share their answers to five very important questions.
Speaker: Michael Weiss, Imagistic
Session: Real Social Media Marketing: Moving From Buzz To Benefits
1. What's the most important trend in nonprofit technology for 2010?
Social Media! Duh! No, but really, I think people will be talking about the ethics involved with social media: What can you say? What should you say? What are the ramifications of not just what you say, but what your fans and followers say. There have been a lot of discussions about this and it needs to continue.
2. Why do you think your session topic is important for nonprofits to address?
In 1999, it was “OMG we need a Web site!” Now it’s “OMG we need to be on Twitter!” People need to understand that it is more than just a post here and there. There needs to be a plan. There needs to be an understanding of the power of social media and how to use it in the best way and for the greater good.
3. What's the one thing you want attendees to remember from your session?
That it was fun; engaging; and that they walked away with action items and a plan. But seeing that it is the last session on the last day – I want them walking out energized and pumped up!
4. Which Muppet do you most identify with and why?
Sgt. Floyd Pepper – Like Floyd I am a bass player and cynical.
5. Where can people follow you online (twitter, blog, etc.)?
