(Note: This is a weekly round-up of NTEN members doing and sharing their nptech awesome. Members are in bold. Tag your own news with "nten member" or "nptech" to help us find your awesome online, or contact Annaliese with your updates.)

Congratulations, Peter Campbell, on becoming the newest member of the Idealware board! Ok, so you say there's still paperwork to be done. It's ok to give you congrats, right?

Speaking of Idealware, as a fellow Mainah, I really appreciated Laura Quinn's "snow shoveling" and nonprofit IT planning metaphor. Thank you for this insight and visualization, Laura, and congratulations to Idealware on reaching their Idealware Research Fund initial fundraising goal!

Leave it to Gavin Clabaugh, one of the original NTEN rockstars and Vice President of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, to provide an equally entertaining and really helpful post about IT, tackling the long-time issue of leaving computers on over night. Finally, answers! And a green solution! Thank you, Gavin.

So you wanted to go to this year's SXSW conference but can't make it. Want a way to make sure your nonprofit organization is represented -- artistically, that is? Beaconfire is (again) creating a nptech space at SXSW in Austin this March, and they want to make sure your cause is there in spirit, even if you can't be in person. Read about all the things Beaconfire will be doing to make their SXSW lounge a welcoming place for techies-for-good, and see how you can contribute.

Don't be fooled by aggressive domain marketers from abroad! That's the warning coming through the NTEN Discuss list this week when someone asked the list for advice about their domain, which someone from China emailed them they should "protect" by registering other like-domains through them. Robert Weiner has been documenting this type of SPAM and sharing with the community since 2008. You should read not only Robert's posts, but the many comments by others who share similar emails they've received. Thanks, Robert, for sharing this information publicly so people see the trend!

Beth Kanter's 53 birthday was this last week. For the last couple of years, she's asked her (extensive) network of friends, colleagues, and readers to help her mark her birthday by raising money for a cause she cares deeply about: The Sharing Foundation, which helps send Cambodian children to school. She got more than she bargained for this year, when over 60 of her blogging colleagues threw an online surprise party. They collectively raised over $4000 online in one day for her cause. There were just too many NTEN members involved in this online love fest to name here, so here's one big "WOW!" to the NTEN community for showing how people-to-people fundraising online works. Beth reflects on the lessons learned from this year's online success in a thorough blog post, including slides and tips you can use for your own organization or advocacy efforts. Thank you, Beth, and Happy Birthday!
