Nancy Schwartz has begun the roll-out of her excellent report on the best Nonprofit Taglines, 2009 edition, by announcing the winners. You can, and should, read it and sign up to receive the full report.

In the spirit of fun and Halloween -- and because we're NTEN -- we, with a little help from our terrific community, have zombified 12 of the winning taglines:

  • "Big Sky. Big Land. Big Graveyard."
  • "Adding steak sauce deep onto the hearts of Texans."
  • "A mind is a terrible thing to taste."
  • "Because the earth feeds on a good lawyer."
  • "If you want to be remembered, do something memorable. If you want to be devoured, just stand there."
  • "Finding a cure now... so our daughters won't have to eat their classmates."
  • "Filling pantries. Ending lives. Braaiiiins."
  • "Send a Net. Catch a Zombie. Save a Life."
  • "Nothing Stops A Bullet Like Undead Flesh."
  • "Telling stories that make a difference -- but would you believe us? Noooo. And now we're all gonna die!"
  • "Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors. And run."
  • "A head for business. A heart for the world. A spleen for breakfast."

Congratulations to Common Cause. Their tagline, "Holding Power Accountable", proved unzombifiable. (And can you believe we're not the first to use the word "unzombifiable"?)

So, as a bonus, here are two more:

  • "Brains: they're what's for dinner."
  • "Brains: the other white matter."

Thanks to Johnny Dukovich (1, 2, & 6), Melissa Barber (8 & 9, Bonus 2), Peter Campbell (4), and Holly Ross (Bonus 1) for their contributions.
