Members are in bold. Tag your news with "nten member" or "nptech" to help us find your awesome, or contact Annaliese with your updates.)

Jon Stahl (ONENorthwest) has an interesting view on social media. He says nonprofits are being urged to engage in social media because "people are already talking about you, so you should make sure you're involved in the conversation". He suspects that, in fact, people ARE NOT talking about you online. Does this debunk the idea nonprofits should engage with social tools online? Check out the comments on this post, including the response from another NTEN member, Ted Fickes (The Wildlife Society), who plays devil's advocate on WHY your nonprofit would engage with online social tools anyway.

Michelle Murrain offers great information on Securtity and Privacy in a Web 2.0 world for nonprofits. She posted this at the end of last week, so I'm glad I caught it -- it's valuable information. Thank you, Michelle!

Blog Action Day was this week, and Rebecca Leaman (Wild Apricot) wrote a great post to help nonprofits understand what it was all about and, even better, what you can take away from the online event and apply to your own causes!

If you're a communications strategy person for your organization, or, heck, even if you're just curious about how social media can impact advocacy discussions and movements, check out Amy Sample Ward's recent article in the SSIR that provides thoughtful analysis and examples of HOW social media can work to create change.

Debra Askanase gives kudos to NTEN and resources for nonprofits in this post, and I'd like to take this opportunity to return the appreciation: check out Debra's great resources and information on her Community Organizer 2.0 site. Debra wants you and your organization to use online tools effectively to engage with your supporters and constituents. Thanks, Debra!
