NTEN Member Buzz Round-Up: Last Week in September

Submitted by Annaliese on Mon, 10/05/2009 - 10:05am

(Note: This is a weekly round-up of NTEN members doing and sharing their nptech awesome. Members are in bold. Tag your news with "nten member" or "nptech" to help us find your awesome, or contact Annaliese with your updates.)

Ellie LaCasse wrote a great article for the MissionResearch GiftWorks newsletter about considerations and best practices for using technology to "Boost Volunteer Involvement and Satisfaction."

I loved Marnie Webb's thoughtful and personal take on why Twitter is different than other online social networks and why you should go for a dip, titled "A Skeptic's Guide to Twitter."

Convio released a report ranking the highest online-donating cities in 2008 and 2009 year-to-date. The good news is that, according to Convio's tracking, this year should still see increased total online donations over last year, despite the down economy.

Avencia ranked in the 2009 Inc. 500|5000 list. More exciting is all the cool stuff they're doing with mapping technology for their community, including HunchLab, for analyzing crime statistics, and the forthcoming Walkshed, to analyze and display "walkability" on a map.

Congratulations to Daniel Ben-Horin, selected this year to be an Ashoka Fellow. And thanks to Deborah Elizabeth Finn for the heads up about Daniel for the nptech community.

Peter Campbell is kicking off a series of posts about Drupal implementation over on Idealware's blog. Thanks for writing up this informative intro!

Amy Sample Ward, who is a great resource for nptech across the pond now, gives the heads-up about an event and upcoming e-benchmarks report from Advocacy Online and Fairsay, which looks at e-campaigns from several Canadian, UK, and international organizations (with many NTEN members among them). If you're in London, you can go to the event in-person; if not, they're nice enough to have a web-cast, too. Thank you for tracking and sharing these data and case studies!
