2009 NTC Preview: Richard Jimmerson on IPv6

In this job, I have to a Jill-of-all-trades. From social media to virtualization to data visualization to email marketing, I have to keep myself in the game -- on all these topics and more.

I will confess, however, that I've never really understood networking (specifically how IP adresses are assigned). So it was kind of a challenge to talk to Richard, who's forgotten more than I'll ever know about IP adresses. But he's got a gift for making it all understandable. 

What he wants you to know is that change is afoot. The IP addresses we've all been using for years, IPv4 adresses, are about to go away, and we'll have to prepare by making sure our equipment, and our vendors, are ready for the change to IPv6.
